Ok, so, I haven't gotten very far, but I'm fairly certain this is the best DLC released for either game, and I really enjoyed Point Lookout; all of the characters are fucking hilarious, I took at least 20 screenshots in the first dialogue because it was so GOOD, there's tons of unique shit, you don't have to ditch your weapons/armor, did I mention the characters?

The DLC starts off with you watching a movie at the Mojave Drive-In, and you get transported to BIG MOUNTAIN RESEARCH FACILITY (yes, all caps, that's how Doctor Klein says it), and once you get to the think tank, you meet all of these scientists who are just floating brains with 3 monitors for eyes and a mouth. The opening dialogue is long, yes, but so funny, and as it turns out, one of them got rid of your brain, heart and spine! OH NO! The incessant sniping between the doctors is great, and their incredulity that you can actually TALK and UNDERSTAND them is staggering. So they get you to help stop Dr. Mobius, who is the antagonist, and who wants to TAKE AWAY ALL OF THE SCIENCE. all of it. that's, well, quite a lot of science. I'm still on the first main quest, which is to go to 3 research facilities and gather things, but whatever. It also looks quite a bit different than New Vegas does. it looks a lot more like someone took the fallout 3 color scheme and added a bunch of weird shit to it. I liked Honest Hearts, I liked the story in Dead Money (BEEP BEEP BEEP), but this is so much better, it's crazy! Also there's a bunch of weird weapons and armor (though Joshua Graham's armor is still the best), weird enemies, etc... go buy this if you like weird shit

    so what's y'alls opinions?

I downloaded it today, but i haven't got the chance to try it out yet since i started a new game on a new save. But what's funny is that they added a bunch of new traits too.

    It really is.

The dialogue with the Think-Tank is simply amazing -- not to mention the callbacks to Christine and Elijah from Dead Money, and hints of Ulysses again for Lonesome Road.

Crazy-ass weapons - right out of the gate you get a scoped, automatic .357 machine gun which.. barks like a dog. And my sonic emitter now sets people on fire.

Edit: some cool new perks too. One which gives you a Turbo-dispensing implant, another which makes you stronger when you stand in radiation, another which gives great "healing items" from living creatures.

Just found a list of the new traits on another forum:

    Claustrophobia
You have a fear of enclosed spaces (probably because of the mutants that live there). You gain +1 to SPECIAL attributes when outside, but suffer -1 when indoors.

    Early Riser
Hey early risers! Enjoy a +2 to each of your SPECIAL attributes from 6am to 12pm, but suffer a -1 from 6pm to 6am when you're not at your best.

    Hoarder
You gain +25 lbs to your carrying capacity, but suffer a -1 to all attributes any time the weight you're carrying drops below 160 lbs.

    Hot Blooded
When your health drops below 50% you gain +10% more damage, but you also suffer -2 to your Agility and Perception attributes.

    Logan's Loophole
No one's going to put you out to pasture 'cause you're going to stay young (and level 30) forever. You'll never become addicted to Chems, and they'll last twice as long...but after 30 you can kiss experience, perks, and skill points goodbye!

    Skilled
You're skilled, but not experienced. You gain +5 points to every skill, but you suffer -10% from experience gained from now on.
"Skilled" seems like it would be really useful, it's really easy to max XP through the course of the game and DLCs, so the downside is pretty much moot.  The Chems bonus in Logan's Loophole seems awesome too.

Yeah this one seems to have a lot of promise in it from what I've seen and heard (the writing especially). I'll have to pick this up later when time permits it.

yeah there's someone who'll give you a psychiatric evaluation, (which means you can rechoose perks) I went with Hoarder and Early Riser (there's not much of a drawback with hoarder with how I play fallout)

I can't check right now but the Steam achievements aren't up yet, if any. I haven't gotten into it yet because of that and I forgot to carry on my "true" Honest Hearts playthrough, which I recently completed since I downloaded Old World Blues.

your home base is called the sink, and when you first get control of it, there's only the main computer that can sell you things and repair things, but you can find the personality modules or w/e in big MT and you can install them into various appliances, and they each do their own thing (sink gives you water, jukebox modifies one of your weapons, toaster modifies one of your weapons, etc.) and nope, no wild wasteland.

I've played it for a few hours so far, and apart from the incredibly long-winded introduction dialogue, I fucking love it. It's far and away the best NV DLC so far, and dare I say, at least as good as Point Lookout? The characters and writing are better than ever. So much of the dialogue is on multiple levels of hilarity that I've never wanted to exhaust every option as badly as I do playing this. The new weapons can be kind of strange but so far, they've been pretty good. I'm partial to the Proton Axe right now, even though the character I'm using isn't even good with melee weapons. The Sonic Emitter seems pretty neat as well, though I haven't had a chance to test out what different effects it has yet. I also found a neat piece of armor that is essentially a halo that sits around my head and regenerates health, albeit very slowly. It's still useful considering how tough the enemies are and how few stimpaks I have. My only other gripe is that some enemies seem needlessly overpowered to the point where I'd rather run away from certain encounters rather than waste a shitload of ammo and health. But as I've said, I still absolutely love this DLC and can't wait to play more.

Also, "Stripe" is easily the best Wild Wasteland easter egg in the whole game.

I agree with everyone else here: this DLC was awesome, how it tied into the lacking Dead Money, into the overall New Vegas story, and just the boonkers this all is.

So can you take Logan's Loophole if you're already past 30?  Would it just freeze you at whatever level you are or knock you down?  I can't wait to play it once I finish the others.

It's by far the best DLC for New Vegas. It's too short though, and not enough to do afterwards.

Also the dialogue is hilarious. Especially when they joke about "Penis Toes"

I heard Chris Avellone is the lead project director on these DLC's so maybe it's why the writing and stuff is pretty good.   Though I'm probably wrong.

Yes, this DLC was maybe the funniest, most enjoyable video game experience I've had in a very, very long time. A Quick Look might be weird because the first (literally) half hour or so is just listening to //won't ruin it// talk, but it's amazing. Totally amazing.

And it's home to easily my favorite Fallout character ever (don't spoil it for yourself if you haven't played it yet): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6kp4zBF-Rc

After playing the Honest Hearts DLC, this new stuff is blowing me away. It's easily the best DLC for NV, and it rivals the best that was put out for FO3. It's got some really funny stuff, as well as challenging gameplay. Some cool new goodies and mechanics are included. The sink homebase design is genius imo. Whoever's responsible for this improved DLC needs to make more.

I guess nobody is having the problem I am, where bad guys just spawn in front of me out of thin air...  Today I was walking and 3 people just spawn in front of me and attack, i turn around and 3 more spawn. It has happened with the robots also. I'm guessing its just a load issue.

@owenneil: No, I definitely had that problem when wandering Big MT, seeing Lobotomites literally spawn in front of me out of thin air. It's one of the two problems I have with this DLC, alongside the 'bullet-spongy' nature of enemies at high-level.

Apart from those two things, the content is brilliant though.

I feel as if Obsidian should just become a Bethesda studio and be given Fallout full-time. Bethesda Game Studios only knows how to make dungeons, landscapes, and linear quests. Obsidian knows exactly what Fallout needs from a tone standpoint, and from a player agency standpoint. New Vegas feels like a continuation of Fallout 2 in a lot of ways, probably because a lot of those Black Isle guys are now Obsidian employees.

Obsidian knows exactly what Fallout needs from a tone standpoint, and from a player agency standpoint. New Vegas feels like a continuation of Fallout 2 in a lot of ways, probably because a lot of those Black Isle guys are now Obsidian employees.

I could agree with that idea, as long as Bethesda would share the new engine and related, up-to-date tech. That and some tech and testing help in the QA department where Obsidian has historically failed pretty miserably.

This just goes further toward reaffirming my belief that NV is a far superior game to Fallout 3, ignoring all the technical bugs.

Just finished it and I can say that while I always enjoy Fallout DLC this was rather dry in terms of game play. There was no real enemy to destroy and basically you just searched the area for different quest items. That is good in a sense because it was more RPG like than action. At the same time though the enemies were very redundant and got boring after awhile. I did think the lobotomites looked cool. But I just rolled my eyes when I saw more scorpions.

I felt Honest Hearts had more to it in terms of story. And I'm sorry but in no way does this rival Point Lookout for Fallout 3. That is still the best Fallout DLC imo.

Can't wait for the final DLC with the courier.

I was really hoping I'd get a companion during the length of this DLC, other than Roxie for that one area (she died, didn't bother making another), since I usually sneak around when I'm alone, thus making things slower than usual.
