    crazy, beautiful, fun

Far cry 3 is the third instalment in the far cry series and probably the best one to boot. The beautiful open world created by ubisoft is incredibly expansive and allows you, pretty much from the beginning of the game, to do what you want. You can craft new items and inventory slots from animal skins you hunt in the world, (much better than assassin’s creed 3’s systems) take over outpost and free the island from the magnificent Vaas’s mercenaries and reveal the map by challenging the treacherous radio towers.

You play a rich kid/adrenalin junkie by the name of Jason Brody, he has gone from skydiving and partying to being held for ransom and about to be sold for slavery, you are very quickly introduced to, most likely the best video game character in existence, Vaas Montenegro. He is a murderous psychopath (that is an understatement) who is in charge of the operation you have been captured by.

Even though the story starts strong and introduces a handful of incredible characters, it drops off about a third through and becomes somewhat boring, but that does not take away from the experience as the mass amount of side objectives keep you busy and drive you to push through the story so that you can continue enjoying the game.

The weapons in far cry 3 have certain incredibility to them, especially as they have somewhat of a wide range, but they also seem as though they are worthless, especially as the majority of them you get for free. This causes a couple of problems, especially near half way through the game as you have nothing to spend your money on but you have a full wallet. Do not fret though, as the majority of the weapons have upgrades that you don’t get for free, *yay*. The upgrades are very basic, the average red dot sight, extended mag etc. etc. but they are not in vain as they all give, what feels like, major boosts to the weapons performance instead of it just being cosmetic.

Like most other ubisoft game though, there are collectables *another yay* but they are kind enough to let you buy maps, which of course is something else to spend your stupid amounts of money on.

To conclude, the game is solid and incredibly fun, even if you don’t enjoy the story, there is enough content there to keep you happy for a long, long period of time. Now I am a little annoyed that they do not explain why the tatau magically appears on your arm or what magical powers it holds, and also how you become a mass murderer over night, but I can look past it and see an incredible world filled with incredible characters that keeps me entertained for hours at a time.

Really good - but falls shy of greatness 0

(Spoilers are present in this review - not that you should play this game for story)Far Cry has always been a series whose entries have had grand ideas but have fallen short of what they could deliver on. The original had these huge, gorgeous, wide-open areas with many different ways in and around things, but it was a very difficult game and the latter half was horribly unbalanced. The second was full of ideas about fighting a civil war, finding the antagonist, dealing with malaria, and roaming ...
