Fitting the file cabinet's purpose would behave it act specifically as a container for relevant information and story advancing information such as player objectives, or maybe documents containing secret codes to access the room the player has been trying to access. Another example for file cabinet use is less common is a file cabinet as a target, in the game "Time Splitters 2" the first mission has a secondary objective where you go around destroying file cabinets with timed mines. It's use as impromptu cover is limited however due to their typically small size, and in games with bullet penetration usually provides minor protection.
