I wonder if they'll muck it up since I assume mobile will be the primary platform. I also wonder if they'll make use of the high quality assets they already have. It would be pretty sad if it's the same or worse backgrounds and horribly "updated" character models.

@teddie: @hassun: The trailer on that Japanese release page contains actual gameplay and it sure looks like they're using better pre-rendered backgrounds. I'm not sure if they are using those HD assets or if they ran a smoothing filter over the old assets, but the game looks a whole lot better. The FMV also seems to be uncompressed.

It's the only one of that era I really want to replay and am more excited about this than the FF7 remake. Let's hope it's an actual PC port instead of a mobile-->PC port which all the recent ones seem to be (And they seem kinda bad?)

@thatpinguino: Yeah, that video looks a lot better than the PS1 version at least. Assuming it's not buggy/broken or something, it looks like this will be the "definitive" version to pick up (as opposed to what they did with the 2D Final Fantasy mobile/pc ports). Hopefully they don't mess the UI up for the PC version for the sake of making it touchscreen-friendly.

I really hope they put this out on PS4 too, though.

Don't worry ZombiePie, it will be on PS4 next summer too. And then it will have a remaster HD edition on PC and PS4 in spring 2017. Then in 2023 it will have a full on remake into an episodically game for the PS5.

I really want this, but I REALLLLLLY hope they do not mess up the PC version by making it essentially an up-res'd mobile version. This screenshot makes me worry about the look of the UI, which is likely from the mobile version:

I need this. I adore FF9. I'm still mad at Square for screwing up the FF6 remake, but hopefully they can do well with my second favorite.

Final Fantasy IX is easily in my top 10 of all time, but I'm not sure I trust SE to not fuck this up so I'll be cautiously optimistic. I always have my PS1 copy to play.

It'll probably be a crappy port like every other PC and IOS port they shit out, but I can't resist FF9.

I'm not surprised. They've ruined every other final fantasy I've ever loved in some form or another, so why not ruin my favorite one by porting their garbage mobile version to PC.

Never beat that clown thing with the bombs in the middle of some old ruin, but I liked where things were going!

I wouldn't bet on them using any high-res stuff, not when they could take those and sell a separate HD Remastered version with em. :P

Add 3 to 9 and you'd have a game I'd be very excited about.

If this has the same fast forward battle mechnic FF7 on PC does then sign me right the fuck up. I remember quitting FF9 just because how painfully slow the battles are.

OK I was skeptical, but the screenshots on the steam page look pretty friggn' good, at least on the character models. Backgrounds are still looking compressed, so the updated models seem to "pop off" of them more.

This is one FF I've always wanted to play. Hopefully this gets a PS4 port. Doesn't feel right playing FF on a computer.

It's the only non-DS remake Final Fantasy I've finished, despite having played a little bit of all the later ones.

I replayed some of it on PS3 a few years ago, but ended up looking at some screenshots of a PC emulated version with jealousy. If I can get it looking crisp, as well as with an option to speed up battles then that sounds great!

@turtlebird95: Uncompressed HD video is big and this game should have a lot of it.

Weird how none of those Steam screenshots have the battle UI on them... which is still the one thing I'm worried about them screwing up since they're also porting it to touchscreen systems.

@teddie: As with all of these FF ports, the proof will be in the pudding. (No that's not a Quina Quen reference.)

I am excited for this. In 2015 I finished my first full playthroughs of VII and VIII and I really enjoyed them. I was about to buy FFIX on Vita a week before this page showed up on Steam but I decided to wait. I don't know why, but I felt like the game would be coming to PC soon. The most experience I have with this game is that I played the first 7 or so hours on an emulator back in 2012. The screenshots make the game look really fucking nice, but I'm worried about the combat UI. The UI for their ports of the 2D FF games are fucking atrocious and make the game look really unplayable to me. A big part of my enjoyment for JRPGS is a decent combat screen, it's why I don't like to play games like Dragon Quest or Earthbound. I really hope they don't fuck it up.

So this is out on Steam now. Apparently it's a direct port of the mobile version so unfortunately that new UI is in it (also no widescreen but whateverrrr). Was gonna pick this up but I already don't have enough time for Dark Souls 3, so I can't justify picking this up. Maybe if they port it to PS4 and fix the UI (or the inevitable $5 sale).
