The last Final Fantasy game released on the PS2, Final Fantasy XII is distinguished by its condition-driven "gambit" battle system, its Monster Hunter-like open environments and side quests, and its setting in the existing fictional universe of Ivalice.
Yep. They basically absorbed Quest for their creative input, drove Matsuno insane, then kicked him off his ass and shipped half a game, and if the game that followed this is any indication the series is on a downward spiral and even the apologists will lose patience if they keep making bullshit like 13. That said, this half a game, 12, even with Vann and Penelo who SE cockshoved in for the lil weabos who can only live through Aryan teens, is the best thing they've done in the last decade.
FFXII was a very good game, it definitely had its flaws (like developing the world story more than any of the characters), and probably having a difficulty level that was slightly too high (ie: just forcing you to grind to get your characters levels up far too often). But it was still great in my opinion.
