The 10000 Yen DLC

Gal Gun: Double Peace is out in Japan and is now getting a bunch of costume DLC. Most of it replaces the boring old schoolgirl outfits with things like witch, adventurer and exotic dancer outfits. There's even two called "Angel's Cutting Board" and "Devil's Meat Buns" that allows you to manipulate the breast size of the girls (I'd like you to take a mad guess at which of them does what). These are all priced fairly in the 100 to 500 yen range, as you'd expect from DLC packs.

But then there's "Pheromone Z", which is a DLC item that allows you to look through the girls clothes all the way....

It costs 10000 Yen!

That's almost double the price of the game!

Hey, sex sells! If they priced it like that, they've probably done some market research that determined that they could get away with it. I bet someone at EA is ripping their hairs out right now over the fact that they didn't come up with that first. Just imagine how much more successful Battlefield Hardline would have been if you could pay 100$ to see everyone naked in it! I guess there's always Battlefront coming up and a marketing opportunity to sell gamers iconic sexy outfits from the Star Wars franchise, like Slave Leia, Slave Luke, Slave Chewbacca, Slave Nien Nunb or Slave TIE Fighter.

I've paid for some goddamn silly stuff in my time like the $93 Dead or Alive 5 Season pass but at least in that case that came with like 60 costumes. This is even a bridge too far for me. That is nuts.

@isomeri: The siloconera article he linked from has examples of what the DLC does. No actual fun bits are explicitly shown. So you're paying $100 to get anime girls naked and its only "kinda" naked.

"The 10,000 Yen DLC" sounds like a good murder mystery title.

I will give this game credit: it knows its audience.

I would pay 10000 yen for a Slave TIE Fighter symmetrically docking with a Slave X-Wing.

Thats $100 more than my yearly Hentai budget.

The game itself has done abysmal. Doing from what numbers I've heard like under 10k units sold of Double Peace.

I know it's probably not what it means, but there's something very concerning about reading "cutting board" and "breast size manipulation" in the same sentence.

This DLC is only for the most elite video game connoisseurs! A prestigious, hand-crafted, artisan, digitally aged, signature-edition piece of Downloadable Content (written in cursive so you know it's real fancy), that only the chosen few will ever gaze on.

Imagine many years from now, when you are on your death-bed... Will you remember a DOTA2 hat that thousands of people also had in that game or will you close your eyes one last time, knowing that you will leave this world as part of truly privileged who paid the price for the ultimate Gal*Gun: Double Peace experience?

It's a steep price for something that could've easily been an unlockable cheat code, but it's a price I'm willing to pay to let my mind rest from imagining that they're naked anyway.

I've given it some more thought... Now that Game Room is closed and the fine folks at Hamster aren't pushing out classic, overpriced arcade games quickly enough, I start worrying that @jeff's wallet is getting too full.

Maybe he should invest in this for archival purpose? For warning future generations?

@Mike:The only Japan thing about this is the gamepart. The rest of it is just as much US culture.

I have zero interest in the game aside from the eventual Endurance Run by Jeff... but much like MGS4 either go all the way or don't bother. Seems like a rip off if it's not even full nudity. So I guess I what I'm saying is I want my Snakes committing suicide and my Gal guns naked.

I mean, I'm a creepy anime guy that plays the hell out of visual novels and eroge and shit but even I'm like "Nah, son....naaaaaah"
