Well, not completely. I hit the power button to turn it off as usual, except the last three times the light goes off, but I can hear the system still running. I now have to physical remove the power cord every time. Anyone hear of this?

Sometimes if you have a controller charge cable plugged in, it will remain kind of running.

if you have it set to complete active downloads before shut off this will happen, it also will do this if you have a wireless controller plugged in via the play and charge or whatever that thing is called, it will fully charge the controller before it fully shuts down, just unplug the controller if you dont want it to do that

Happens to me too sometimes, I tried leaving it on for awhile but it didn't turn off and I had to manually do so.

Yep, that means it's either downloading stuff or charging controllers, and it's better to leave it to its business.

Yes.  Either that or it's an NXE maintenance update.

@EpicSteve:  Make sure your not downloading anything and if your not and still getting this problem when you shut down try turning off "background downloads"if you have this on.  "background downloads" is in the preference area I think.  Its basically a low power download mode for if your downloading a lot of stuff and want to shut down your system.

1.when the system has gotten particularlly hot the fans will stay on to cool it down so no damage is incured.
2.you are downloading things the system will say in standby mode till stuff is downloaded.

This sounds like the logical explanation for your problem

Make sure you turn off download mode. Make sure all usb devices are disconnected from the 360. It shouldn't do this after you've done all of this.

Another note if you have a wireless controller hooked up it will stay on to recharge that controller.
