I see ppl say this all the time in posts on these forums. So i got curious. where do you(who have this) live and what company? It is strange for me to hear this, as we had this back in 2000. But then it  wasn't an option anymore. I am flabbergasted(love that word^^) that this still exist. Who's the  unfortunate ppl here?

Every time I see someone mention their shitty (and they are) bandwidth caps, they're almost always from Canada and using Bell.

250GB a month with Comcast.

A couple of us Comcast folk posted our usage charts a while ago in a similar thread.  I rarely get near my cap in a 4 person household where each person has their own desktop and console.

Really? this might be a stupid question but can you view you "bank" on the bandwidth when you want? so you can plan on how much online play and sucth you have left?

In Canada almost every ISP has a bandwidth cap. Depending on the province and ISP typical caps are from 25gb to 125gb.

@WEGGLES: Ugh.. that sucks! I use at least double that every month and I'm not what I would consider a heavy user

I have Comcast as well and the only time I've ever gotten close to my cap (250gb) was last summer during one of Steam's sales.

Comcast doesn't let you view how much bandwidth you've used yet. I'm not even supper sure that they've admitted that they have a cap. It might be mentioned somewhere in the fine print in your contract. They send out letters if you go over and massively throttle you if you go over.

@Vortexus1981: Yeah, basically you go into the same account management website you'd go to for paying your bill, and they show you your last three months of usage, and your usage for the current month.  It's pretty neat in that regard.

I live in the middle of nowhere, there's one high speed ISP option, it's expensive as shit to boot. While we don't have a hard cap we have a very low soft cap, once we'vre reach that the bandwidth starts to cost (sold in chucks of GBs). All I can say is that it's absolutely worth it not to put up with 56k or Satellite ever again.

@monstersnsoup: I first found out about it back in November.

Go to customer.comcast.com >
(login, of course) >
click the Users & Settings tab >
On the right you will see "High-Speed Internet Data Usage."  That will show you your usage for the current month.
Click View Details to get the previous 3 months.

Luckily I didn't reach the 250gb cap. I use the most but I don't really download that much data a day.

@melcene: Thanks for the info, I actually had no idea Comcast had a cap.  Luckily they split internet usage from the on-demand TV usage.  I would of totally been over last month if they combined the two.

I have this as well but from Rogers,  but I believe were're paying a lot more.  I'm dying here. It resets on the 13th and I got my 75% notification last week.
Like I said....I'm dying.

I think the problem is that it's difficult to separate out just gaming.  Many gamers also do other things online that consume bandwidth such as streaming videos.  So it's not just how much online gaming takes from the cap, but those things also need to be taken into account.

Canada, home of the worst internet in the world. Low population density, a corrupt regulatory board and almost no competition in the marketplace. I'm actually relatively lucky with a 100GB cap, but there's definitely room for improvement.

Living in a student residence, horrible internet speeds, restricted web use on high bandwidth sites(internet radio, porn, etc), and cannot use consoles online until midnight on weekdays, and 7PM on week ends.

South Africa. I have a monthly cap of 5 GB. I kid you not.

I use Telkom. There are other options available, but they're not much better. My sister uses MWEB and her limit is 1 GB.
