Best audio track in a game.

I've been listening to the Halo soundtracks recently and I have to say, those games have good fucking music. I would say the Halo 3 theme song( or warthog run song or whatever) is my favorite original track from any video game.

What are some of your favorites?

I think Mass Effect 1 has wildly underappreciated music. So while there are about a hundred other more obvious video game songs that I also love to death, here is the title screen music from Mass Effect, a piece called "Vigil".

This topic comes up so often, I swear we should have a dedicated game music thread - much like the PC screenshot thread.

Um, anyway, I love this track from Mother 3:

By far my favorite song from any video game I've played. I've loved electronic music since I was a kid and when my little brother introduced me to this game I fell in love with it for the music, and for the perfectly executed liquid, futuristic feeling it brought to racing.

I have this as my morning alarm. Works perfectly to get me in the right mood at the start of the day.

There's lots of great ones out there definitely one of my favorite is Halo 2 [ the best multiplayer game on console ever made!! ] menu theme sometimes I would just leave the game on the menu screen just to listen to that awesomeness, that would always get me in the Halo mood before I get on to the multiplayer.

The Bastion Soundtrack is very good. "A Proper Story" and "Slinger´s Song" from the same Soundtrack are also very good tracks.

And, of course, "Nate´s Theme" from Uncharted 2:

Really you could probably pick any of Michael Giachinno's work on the Medal of Honor series but I pick the one that makes me teary eyed way too often.

Also I say this is the best of the themes:

Gears of War has one of my absolute favorite main themes, along side Halo, Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 2-4. Kevin Reipl composed some great music in the first Gears, but Steve Jablonsky really made those themes shine in Gears of War 2.    
 
  

Weird thing is, his music for the Transformers movies is sort of awful by way of comparison. I actually wouldn't have guessed it was the same composer. The slow and emotional momentum of "With Sympathy" is awesome and underscored the one really outstanding dramatic moment in Gears 2.

I think it's impossible for me to pick one favorite track of all times. Just picking one from the first page of this thread is ridiculously hard.

I still can't believe Jeff didn't fight harder for this one (I assume this was the track he was thinking of) for game track of the year last year.

Halo is the one for me also, i have all the halo soundtracks on my Ipod.

Still Alive from Mirror's Edge is a fantastic piece. Not only does it fit perfectly with that universe but it works well as a stand alone pop song.

Wow, this thread is INCREDIBLY helpful! Nicking pretty much everything, because I'm DJing at THIS on Saturday, in lovely Derby, England.

Also, Moon stage music from Ducktales wins every one of these discussions. Perfect.

I always thought that this was a fantastic mood setter. You boot up the game, and the first thing you hear is this creepy music...

Man, so hard to choose. A lot of my favorites have already been posted so I'll just post some that haven't been put up yet.

I'm going to stop right here because I could honestly post the entire soundtracks for Persona 3 and 4.

If you want some Legend of Zelda music highly recommend Zelda ReorchestratedI don't know how they give all of that music away for free.

I also love OCRemix.org because host the best remixes, EVER! Halc's rendition of Dewford Town from Pokemon is pretty spectacular. Also recomend his full LP on Bandcamp (All of his stuff is free btw)

@Hashbrowns: To me, Gears of War's worst attribute has been it's music but that changed with Gears of War 3 IMO. I love the way they reworked it. Way more emotion behind the music unlike the other two. Instead of this typical blockbuster score its kicked back a few notches and totally sets it up for success.

one of the best main menu themes, guess what, bf3 doesnt even have a menu, heresy!

tons of different versions on this one but I gotta say the Sotn version was pretty good, the game was pretty good too ;)
