Bioware teases their new game "Nightmare"

There's a few parts to this. First, they sent out an e-mail with the subject line "You've Been Chosen"

Then there's the teaser itself from the e-mail

And then, it appears they have some sort of ARG going on. Weird shit, Bioware. I love supernatural stuff, so this looks right up my alley.

If this is a new setting for a (at least largely) single player RPG I would be excited as hell. Cool teaser, guess we'll see something at Gamescom.

Seems possibly interesting. I hope it's a single-player game though; I'll be okay if it has some optional multiplayer stuff, but I'll definitely be offended if they use the dreaded 'F' word...

I wouldn't be surprised if this is made by Bioware Austin since both Bioware Edmonton and Bioware Montreal are working on Sci Fi games (New IP and Mass Effect Spinoff).

Hmm, my first thought was that this is the project from Bioware Edmonton that Casey Hudson and his team have been working on. They've done fantasy and they've done futuristic sci-fi, I could go for a modern times sci-fi setting.

@corruptedevil: I want to say that Bioware Austin is a shadow of its former self these days as most of that team got laid off a few months after SWTOR shipped. Possible though that they've restructured a bit over there and maybe staffed up for something, though I believe they are running a smaller ship for maintaining Star Wars.

Either way, I'm interested to see where this goes. Fingers crossed for something legit as hell.

Sounds like a pretty sweet little ARG advertising campaign. No one has really tried it since The Secret World so it will be neat to see where this goes. Gotta be honest the effects in the video were pretty sweet. You can bash Bioware all you want but the worst game they have ever made was Dragon Age 2, which is still a okay (just not great) game, so I am willing to tough it out and see what IP this leads to. But yeah... please don't be a FTP anything.

I'm interested ... a Bioware game in a new setting sounds like good news.

I really hope that "Nightmare" is just a temporary title, unless we're talking about a spoof on schlock horror movies.

Actually their worst game is Star Wars The Old Republic, which is kinda terrible.

I was hoping they were working on a Knightmare game.

Horror's really not my thing, but I'll play anything that Bioware puts out. Curious to see what this ends up being.

I got the email too. It seems super lame so far.

The CGI effects in the video are especially awful.

So, I guess this is not something for me and they should stop emailing me about it.

According to the PC Gamer article it's looking like it'll be called Shadow Realm. That name is imbedded in the email and EA licensed that trademark earlier this year.

I saw this video in my email first thing this morning, thought I got into a closed beta for something and was stoked for a minute till I saw it was just an ad.

Video does look cool though and I'm interested to see more of the premise to it.

Honestly, I think the game's name is Chosen. I think Nightmare is the title of that video. Their font treatment is YOU'VE BEEN CHOSEN and the hashtag they made to spread around is #Chosen. Plus, it's broad and non-specific and thus can appeal to anyone who knows what being selected is. Much like Destiny.

Watched the video, mulled it over. The video sucks, and is stupid. Those are my only feelings. I am 5 years old. Me not like, not interested.

The YOU ARE CHOSEN schtick? Yeah, pretty much true, for sure.

Some exceptions might be CRPGs? I feel like the tone in those games tends to be a little less Hero's Quest, but maybe that's some selective memory.

So tired of this prerelease-teasing-the-announcement-of-the-trailer-for-the-announcement bullshit. Just show me the game.

From the character interactions with party members to the class-based storyline (Sith Warrior REP), exploring different worlds, yadda yadda. All of the classic Bioware shit is great. The combat isn't bad, either. It's just, well, more KOTOR. If you can ignore the parts where it's real MMO-y then you've got a pretty great game to play.

As PC Gamer notes, an image in the teaser email has the filename "ShadowRealms_Teaser_video.jpg." and that's not the first time the name's popped up tied to EA. In February the company filed a trademark for it, and in March it registered a ton of domains including the name, such as "shadowrealmsonline.net," "shadowrealmspvp.net" and "shadowrealmsplayfree.com" - a free-to-play MMO is the obvious leap to make.

So yeah.

Also, with these teasers coming out right about now, I bet they're going to announce this game at Gamescom, for next Fall I bet.

I am certainly intrigued by this whole thing, and the prospect of an in-depth RPG outside of the typical future sc-fi or medieval fantasy setting is certainly appealing. Still, if the rumors about it being a free to play MMO are true I hope it avoids all the bullshit that makes MMOs a chore to play.

On a side note, why the fuck does IGN feel the need to watermark every single video they post? It's one thing to do it for their original content (podcasts, reviews, etc), but for a trailer that they're simply re-uploading from another source, dumb and obnoxious.
