Brad is an anime expert

I couple of times lately Jeff has said something like "Brad is an anime expert". From the context I gather this is some kind of joke or meme. Can anyone tell me where it started? I checked the Know Your Meme Guide but it wasn't there.

I think it came up when Brad was playing Asura's Wrath and he said it seemed like an anime.

Brad is leaving Giant Bomb to go work at Anime Vice.

This has been a joke since like 2009 at least. It definitely long predates Asura's Wrath.

So, I guess this means nobody knows. Oh well.

Because he reviews Final Fantasy, and other anime related software.

He is the most anime savvy of all the giantbomb crew. Which pretty much makes him the most respected expert on the topic in the entire world.

I believe it's a joke between the staff as Brad knows next to nothing about anime, so he gets all of the anime games. Similar to how Jeff and Vinny know next to nothing about sports yet always do the sports Quick Looks

Yeah Brad was like a huge Otaku at some point in his life, I gather. He is no expert though. Go talk to the dudes on ANime Vice if you wanna see some hardcore fandom.

I thought it was the Asura's Wrath thing too. If you really want to find out, go listen to the Bombcast earlier this year where they discuss it, I guess? Plus, Brad knows a bit of Japanese. However, he doesn't actually like anime which I'm sure is Jeff's main motivation for calling him the 'anime editor'.

He was a anime fan at some point due to the crew calling him out on it. He also took a Japanese class in college.

Everyone hates reviewing anime games, so it's funny to pin someone as "The anime expert". Jeff often names people as experts of things so the review won't land on him. 
i.e: "Our resident Dragonball expert", "GiantBomb's in-house hockey expert", "give this one to Ryan, he loves horse-racing".

@I_smell: Are you saying Ryan doesn't have intimate knowledge of Horse Racing? Blasphemy. I saw the kinect quick look.
