Broken Component cables?

Ok i JUST bought sony brand component cables for my ps3 [better than my 360]. And i change up the settings to 1080i to run on my hdtv. Same settings I have on my 360 and its all fine and dandy, the menu's look great running in 1080i, I put in GRiD and BAM the screen flashes says 480i in the right hand corner and the game starts up in standard definition. Can someone tell me whats up?

Sounds like an issue with the game? Tried any other games with it?

Actually it turns out GRiD only supports 720p on the ps3, so i turned my ps3 to support both 720p and 1080i.

Ohhh, at least the problem is solved :) Shame it doesnt do 1080 though.
