I personally enjoyed most of the Onimusha games myself. Has anyone else played these games?
And also, it's been like 5 years since Dawn of Dreams.....Has anyone heard of any future Onimusha-related developments?
Did anyone ever play the Onimusha series?
I played the shit out of them, not the dumb spin offs though. I'll be surprised if they try to bring the series back, they already have DMC for character action.
I've played 3 and Dawn of Dreams. Loved them both though Onimusha 3's characters and script were fucking awful. I mean I never put up my standards all that high for any game with the likes of Onimusha, but daaaayuuum! Real disappointment with the addition of Jean Reno and then he gets booted off after about 10 minutes for that annoying douche who voiced Leon in RE4.
Dawn of Dreams I fucking adored and is one of my all time favourite ps2 games. Shame the coop, via cheat, was poorly implemented, since it would of suited the game so well.
The third game let you play as Jean Reno- you bet your ass I played them. I'd had some brief time with the second game before that, didn't like it all that much, but after the third and Dawn of Dreams, I was ready for the series to take off into some awesome places, and sadly it never did.
Also, I always thought the Onimusha cast would have been perfect guest characters for the Soul Calibur series, since they were taking place in roughly the same time period, and Soul Edge looked damn close to a Genma weapon already, but it never happened. Disappointing.
I have played, and still own, the first Onimusha. It's pretty cool, I like the staff of wind, I always rush through it til I get that =P
My favorite part is how odd it is. That weird dude that teleports you to the arenas, for instance. I know he probably symbolizes something, but I always thought he was weird.
lol that dude was hilarious
" I played the shit out of them, not the dumb spin offs though. I'll be surprised if they try to bring the series back, they already have DMC for character action. "Well it was not a character action game, it's Resident Evil with swords.
I don't know how they would make a new one, but I wish they would.

onimusha warlords was one of my favourite games of the last generation and i enjoyed the third too!
I remember being in awe of some of the bigger monsters and how detailed the backgrounds were. I also thought Samanousuke or however you said it was a great character (well i did as a young kid anyway).
" @kingzetta said:Yes they did and you had to find keys and solve puzzles and what now." @StarvingGamer said:I recall they even had Herbs as the primary healing items as well. I actually thought Onimusha 2 was pretty cool since there was a cool trading system, and you could play as certain characters depending upon the ones you befriended by trading with them.
My personal favorite parts of the series were the bits with Guildenstern, the mad scientist demon from the first and third games. He accidentally invents time travel, freaks out and hides in the basement of Notre Dame Cathedral, builds a base, and invades the future with zombies and spider ninjas.
I played the first three and then the Super Smash Brothers knock off. Yeah, that last one was terrible.
I recently went back and tried to play the first game, and I just couldn't do it. The control that Capcom loved to use, the RE1 tank styled stuff, yes, there's a reason why we don't use that anymore. It's slow, tedious, builds a false sense of suspense, and it just made me angry. I still have found memories of 3 though, since they fixed the controls last I remember and then there was that awesome part between the Oni Army and the demons where you played as the french dude. I remember THAT being awesome.
I haven't played any of them, though I did pick up Dawn of Dreams used a while back and haven't gotten to it yet. I remember watching one of my college roommates play through the first game and it looked pretty cool, though it seems that the series has changed dramatically since then.
" @Marz: Huh, totally forgot about that xbox port....was it any good? "It was similar in many aspects to the original, difficulty was increased quite a bit. There was a green souls system, where you absorb them you get buffed and if a demon absorbed them they would become more difficult to defeat.
