Is it mean? I record myself doing it. Sometimes with voice masks like auto tune.

Never felt the need to fuck with people, not a fan of pranks and trolling, it's just lame.

#3 Posted by ShadowConqueror (2997 posts) -

No.

#4 Posted by Deathmachine117 (377 posts) -

The worst I would do is just fly around in a helicopter seeing what stunts I could pull in Battlefield or go out of my way to block a snipers aiming.

Thats only when I get bored of the actual multiplayer which is rare.

You're asking us if intentionally worsening other people's playing experiences is a bad thing.

#6 Edited by BonOrbitz (2089 posts) -

Nope. I deal with enough assholes outside of games. Don't need to be one.

Trolling doesn't always worsen others' experience. I've have seen some truly hilarious trolls online.

#8 Posted by NapTimeSleeper (327 posts) -

I've never really done it myself.

#9 Posted by BestUsernameEver (4866 posts) -

No, it's just not fun, I'd rather play the game.

#10 Posted by Scrawnto (2413 posts) -

Only through voice chat, and even then, not since eighth grade, which was about 9 years ago.

#11 Posted by BraveToaster (12590 posts) -

No, we don't want to watch your YouTube videos.

#12 Posted by pyromagnestir (3977 posts) -

I troll people in life. I play games to have fun and be nice.

#13 Edited by Cloudenvy (5890 posts) -

Nope, because I'm not a human piece of trash!

And no, I don't want to watch your Youtube videos.

#14 Posted by Pandasteeler43 (44 posts) -

Nope, there are more than enough trolls to fend off as is.

#15 Posted by DonChipotle (2659 posts) -

No, I prefer to work with my team or engage in actual conversations with them while playing.

I only troll friends because it is funny that way.

#16 Posted by Kidavenger (3380 posts) -

I personally don't troll, but I participated in a lot massive stunts with my guild in WoW that would probably be considered trolling and it was a blast.

As long as it's large scale/not directed at an individual and it's clever; I see nothing wrong with it.

#17 Posted by AlexanderSheen (4681 posts) -

No!

#18 Posted by Nux (2220 posts) -

Only if someone really pisses me off. But not usely no.

#19 Posted by whyareyoucrouchingspock (976 posts) -

Trolling is the sign of a small mind.

#20 Posted by PeasantAbuse (5122 posts) -

Yes, I have a small mind.

#21 Posted by Welding (140 posts) -

Most of the new players on Super Monday Night Combat are so helpless and braindead that I can't help and have fun with them sometimes.

Not too much though, and I never insult anyone.

#22 Posted by Gargantuan (1877 posts) -

I become super polite when people bitch at me when I play MOBAs, it's really fun when they get more pissed off.

#23 Posted by habster3 (3595 posts) -

I think I troll people enough in real life, honestly. Sure, sometimes I troll people with a mic and there are some hilarious trolling videos on YouTube (Part One and Part Two), but I generally don't troll in video games.

#24 Posted by emem (1955 posts) -
@Gargantuan: I was thinking about checking out Dota 2 when it is released and I heard that the MOBA community isn't the nicest... is it really that bad?
#25 Posted by AgnosticJesus (533 posts) -

No, but according to my Xbox Live rep I'm a major troll. 70% of players have avoided me with majority saying it's because of abusive language. Awesome thing I rarely use a mic and when I I'm in private chat with friends.

#26 Posted by Pandasteeler43 (44 posts) -

@emem: Yes, it really is. I tried Dota 2 for a while, great game, terrible community for the most part.

#27 Posted by sodapop7 (169 posts) -

Statistically a lot of these people are probably lying. I won't deny that I have done so on occasion though usually it is provoked.

People exaggerate. Sure, there's assholes in MOBAs but I've met a lot more assholes in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PC) than in Dota 2 and LoL.

I don't mind people who bitch, I think it's funny.

#29 Posted by Mr_Skeleton (5118 posts) -

Trolling is just sad.

#30 Edited by AlexW00d (6065 posts) -

I don't, but I find some funny. This for example.

Damnit, the time link doesn't work in embedded. 3 minutes in is what I was referencing.

#31 Posted by 9999dmg (129 posts) -

I don't normally, but I think trolling in AC:Brotherhood is hilarious.

Making your character constantly run into one guy over and over causing them to get stuck in that 'I bumped into something' animation, is really funny.

#32 Posted by Breadfan (6586 posts) -

Yep.

#33 Posted by TheSquarePear (148 posts) -

Troll is a noun.

It's called griefing and fuck you if you do it.

#34 Posted by MrJorOwe (267 posts) -

Occasionally, not to random people though, typically if said person is swearing on mic and that then I will fuck with them. Sometimes it's fun :/

#35 Posted by CookieMonster (2409 posts) -

Well done on subtly promoting your youtube channel.

#36 Posted by emem (1955 posts) -
@Tangerines: That's too bad.

@Gargantuan: Yeah, I guess in first person shooters the percentage of people who try to boost their egos is the highest.
#37 Posted by kindgineer (2487 posts) -

Depends on how you "troll."

My wife doesn't play games online much, but not to long ago she came across her first troll asshole. It was in Full House Poker and it was two absolutely foul-mouthed jackasses making fun of her in every way imaginable. She was joking around with one of the players in the match and out of no-where those two decided to pick on her with vulgarity, name calling, and other things.

That is bad. There are okay types of trolling, where it doesn't affect the person emotionally, but your treading shallow water there.

#38 Posted by SockemJetpack (405 posts) -

I trolled my partners in LA Noire constantly. I would be waiting in the car for them and right when they get to the door I would move up a little so they couldn't get in. Then reverse. Then go forward again and finally take off to the next objective.

As far as trolling actual people in games? Nah I'm not a dick.

#39 Posted by LiquidSwords (2739 posts) -

Flagged! See, i iz troll too, Lolz!!!11!

#40 Posted by Floope (190 posts) -

I feel like this posts purpose is to troll for views.

And only in world of warcraft.

I would feel to bad about myself to be able to troll without mind cringing.

#43 Posted by UnrealDP (1217 posts) -

Yeah, as a partaker in tons of quick scoping and the like ala MW 1-3, I've seen my fair share of trolling on grand levels. It can be funny as hell, but it's almost always assholish and I kinda despise it. It can be done intelligently and be really funny, but 99% of the time it's just some 14 year old being a prick.

#44 Posted by Simplexity (1382 posts) -

Naw never, I don't really communicate with people when I play multiplayer, I just don't care I guess.

First person shooters, specfically on consoles due to the accessibility and mainstream nature attract the lowest common denominator. This is the case with most popular FPS. Strategy games much less so. This is most likely due to strategy games requiring more input from the user. The learning curve and platform (pc) reduces the chances of playing against young players with undeveloped minds or underachieving adults. Generally speaking, I have a wonderful time online.

This. Troll is becoming used way too much; the proper term's "griefing".

The other day I was playing l4d with some friends and the other team was "trolling" us. Spent most of the match calling us fags and telling us to rage all while spraying furry porn everywhere.

Another time a guy on my team moved a piece of geometry as infected, so that it blocked the progress of the survivors. It was almost funny until you realized that he waited out the first round and then spent 5 minutes in the dark hitting a pipe, the end goal to force everyone to stop playing this game we wanted to play. That's really funny right guys?

#48 Posted by MiniPato (2658 posts) -

Way to promote your youtube channel in secret.

#49 Posted by RedRavN (381 posts) -

I would troll, but after I was around 6 years old I realised that I'm not actually a massive bell end and got over it.

#50 Posted by Toxeia (721 posts) -

I play WoW. A lot. So yes, of course I troll. It's even better in vent when I can hear them starting to break. That moment they yell into vent and you can hear the trickle of tears down their cheek... it sustains me.

I only do this to people that I deem to be supreme douche bags, such as myself.
