So I was at my friends house and we were playing DOA 2...the greatest fighting game ever. I looked over at his stack of games and you'll never guess what I saw: Alienfront Online and Phantsay Star Online. I wanted to hook the bad boy up to the internet. He said no ones online, I said "bullshit, theirs always some one grinding games out online." Has anyone recenlty play PSO or AlienFront recently?

I think Sega stopped supporting SegaNet (or whatever it was called) years ago. Fan servers are still up, but I've only heard of this for PSO.

True. Do some research and see if you can get in on some weird fan-servers.

@Video_Game_King: Haha, I'll hit myself for you.

I had the DreamCast for years, however never knew it had on-line. Well, i got it cheap at a garage sale when it first came out, and there was no manuals or anything included, so i guess you can't blame me for not knowing.

Also, the games i had probably did not have an on-line feature. Spawn, Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Crazy Taxi. Or maybe they did. Oh well.

There are fan servers that are in full force. I've only seen a PSO one in full working order, but I would not be surprised if just about any online Dreamcast game has some sort of community still going strong.

The sad thing is that the Saturn was the first multi cpu console and the Dreamcast was the first with an online service, why Sega is not around anymore as a console maker, WHY???,WHY???????????????

@Valkyr: Lack of third party support.  And when I say that, I mean EA.

@SamStrife: Yeah I know, but there is a serious hole in the gaming industry right now, nobody is covering the crazy japanese arcade games that were only available on the Sega consoles or the Neo Geo, not even PSN or XBLA games, that's why I freaking loved Bayonetta

This is technically true from an official standpoint of console manufacturers actually deliberately inserting hardware that could connect to the Internet right into the system. Otherwise, online multiplayer in general was around even during the SNES and Genesis days if you had the right third-party hardware and were willing to fork over money for large phone bills. Prototypes existed even as far back as the NES, although funding and manufacturing support meant that they never made it to market.

There might be a reason agianst this. There hasn't been a good PSO game recently and their are some other exclusives people might wanna play once once a week for memories or what not.

That's one of my favorite things about PC gaming.  I still play Jedi Academy.  A game that came out 6+ years ago and there is still a ton of people that play online.

And there is apparently free servers running for PSO.  Though you will have to google it yourself as I don't know giantbombs rules on linking quasi illegal type stuff.
