Fighting Games General EX Plus α
@jesna: Thanks for those tips! I've been practicing punishing those shoryukens and anti-airing people with crouching medium punch today, and it's been fun. I still lose a good amount of the time, but now I know what I have to do against Kens and Ryus, so it's not frustrating anymore. When I manage to perform it, I win those matches. I was happy about beating a Cammy too, normally lose against her, but not this time.
@acekingoffsuit There was a schedule change, yes. SFV Top 16 will now take place around 6:30pm EST.

Mika finally won a major, poor gal's been doing so poorly. With that only Vega, Birdie, Rashid, and Zangief have yet to win a CPT event from the vanilla cast. Capcom seems to have the Anti-NRS method of no patches whatsoever and DLC characters that suck (apologies to Alex and Juri). Assuming Vega really is the 9th best character he'll probably win eventually, Rashid seems to be the new random character and thus win randomly, leaving us with just Birdie and Gief. The Gief talent pool is vastly superior to the Birdie talent pool despite the character being worse so assuming one of them does win at some point I figure Gief'll do it first.
Just hit an all time high 8 win streak and topped out at 1250 lp before careening back down to 1020. Feeling like I hurdled another brick wall recently! A good feeling. Also had two very interesting moments, one where I really, truly felt the pain of poor execution and another which was effectively the opposite, a last second, last move clutch combo that sealed the deal.
Assuming Vega really is the 9th best character he'll probably win eventually
Vega's time will soon be nigh! There are some really great players pushing him, so bound to find success soon I think.
Or rerelease XIII with good netcode :D
:'( don't joke..
King of Fighters 14 is out, net code is bad. Swapped to 4+ only and it's playable now but it still feels rough and I'm dropping/missing a lot of stuff I feel like I shouldn't and not able to react like I want to but playable and I'm enjoying it and going to keep playing it dammit. Was planning on doing a community tournament for it but until I try it with some east-coast people and see how it is, which seems like it'll be real bad judging from these matches not feeling great at its supposed best, I just can't do it. Shame because I'm going through the same cycle I did with MKX except higher-expectations and lower-feelings reality happens.
On some other better(?) King of Fighter news there's some Mai impressions in DOA5:LR (remember she's coming in September as guest character) from Famitsu. Seems like she still has the fan toss and divekick and what-not, interested in seeing how she plays in a 3D fighter. Link to FreeStepDodge post which translates the article: http://www.freestepdodge.com/threads/mai-shiranui-doa5lr-discussion-guest-from-ff-kof-series.6443/page-9#post-324675.
Been watching Floe stream KOF14 today. The netcode seems really really bad...
He was excited to learn the game, but once he hit online his enthusiasm died with the underwater netplay. He ended with rank 10 of "King of lag" as he put it.
Story mode was also lackluster (honestly who really cared about this?) and the online setup not remembering his prior settings was becoming annoying. (Not going back to training mode even though he set it up etc)
Overall he said, "The game play is good... But everything around it is bad. KOF14 makes me appreciate SFV."
I wonder if SNK can fix this... I doubt it, looking at their previous history.
I'll just wait for Tekken 7 I guess.
The reports of bad KOF netcode are breaking my heart. Especially because I know deep down in my soul that I'm gonna buy the damn thing anyway. Hearing Jason describe Alice as "basically Sakura for KoF" on the QL has basically ensured I will have to fuck around with her, and then probably mess with a few of the other fighters I messed with in KOFXIII. Hopefully a patch or something fixes the netcode.
@starvinggamer: Good thing SFV has the best netcode ever so you don't have to regret that purchase.
I finally made it to Silver rank in SFV by beating a Silver F.A.N.G player.
Looking forward to some character diversity, Bronze ranks were 90% Ken and 10% Ryu for me.
@perfidioussinn: The ratio of Ryu will increase.
@hmoney001: Mai finally in the game where she belongs.
Netplay seems fine on Poongko's stream, also kind of an amusing mode Poongko/Verna/Vash Vs NL/MadKoF/Ssong
Games working fine on Korean internet and Japanese internet but not American internet or European internet is hardly surprising.
I don't think there has been that many reports of how the game works on European internet as the game isn't properly out yet in here.
Also the netcode of XIV seems to be more bugged than totally fundamentally broken. So there is hope that SNK will deliver some sort of fix at some point, maybe.
Right now, I just want to get my hands on the game, even if I can only play arcade mode and training, I just want to play the game and test all (most) of the characters.
I don't think there has been that many reports of how the game works on European internet as the game isn't properly out yet in here.
Oh yeah I was more speaking in general, not KoF specific
Brackets for Oz Hadou Nationals: http://challonge.com/ohn14sf5
@perfidioussinn: Curious what region you are playing in? Central Canada appears to be Ryu City from where I'm sitting (which is in the air, post uppercut, a dumb look on my face).
@ivdamke Might get Sildenafl Vs Daigo in Pools at the Aussie tournament.
@fredchuckdave: Daigo caught a cold. RIP
@hassun: He is there though right? Just will be in Reiketsu garb.
Was having so much fun on commentary, but top 8 is now. I still don't understand this game at all. #JESUSTAKETHEWHEEL

- So many Vegas at AB7, this is so educational! Never heard Vega yelps in a crowd before.
- huh, this is Guile's first major win right? ISDD pretty great showing at Euro 2 ranking tourney. Really cool finish to that GFs.
@hmoney001@hassun KoF premium edition came in the mail, one side of the audio CD case is just Mai's boobs.
@fredchuckdave: They know their audience.
i beat jiewa!

Also congrats Daigo, whatever.
Player list for the TGS Premier: http://beastapac.com/japancup/#playerlist
Most notable absences: Infiltration, Tokido, Momochi or Fuudo.
@hassun: Been talking to DFL a lot lately, that's kind of hilarious he got in. Is Infil a notable absence at this point or is that the expected result? Also JP Online tourney confirmed harder than TGS. Masaki is Majorboy as far as I know (RIP Ibuki). Crimson and Fidoskin lone EU reps, not counting HK's Saunic.
@starvinggamer GILTY GON GATEKEEP SOME JP MOTHERFUCKERS!
I would shit talk Nacer but he might actually have one of the better chances just due to his style, Nacer Vs Jyobin grand finals. Brenttisfuckedd
@fredchuckdave: Xiao Hai, Infil, Tokido and Momochi not going is not such a surprise I guess due to already being qualified. Fuudo is sitting very comfortably on points. Justin Wong is in even though he's also comfortable but dem EG peeps be looking for excuses to travel to Japan methinks.

The KoF XIV playerbase (worldwide) seems to not be totally insane yet, in contrast to day one SFV; obviously there was only the one beta in this case but I think ultimately it's just the execution is non trivial so it's mostly a bunch of raw fundamentals matches outside of a handful of players.
My King seems fine, Love you just press one button and safe specials, dunno who to use for a third character (used to be quite good with Robert in XIII) but leaning towards Divekick lady since that just seems like hilarious bullshit.
Edit: Divekick lady builds 10% meter on every whiffed Divekick and you can do that shit full screen and then fly to other side of the screen and do it again.
@hassun: Just realized Snake Eyez got third, Zangief's destiny.
@fredchuckdave: Yeah but then he did use quite a bit of Ryu...
Played in a Party VS lobby in KOFXIV with 1 Mexico, 1 US, and 4 JP players, seemed to work okay; no noticeable hitching.
Played in a Party VS lobby in KOFXIV with 1 Mexico, 1 US, and 4 JP players, seemed to work okay; no noticeable hitching.
Hopefully they can get that working on the main online mode.
Gives me hope for the PC version (If SNK ever bothers with that).
Red Bull Gaming U tournament: https://www.twitch.tv/redbulljapan/v/86705110
They streamed the teaching process on on Topanga tv the other day.
This thing is basically university students divided into small groups and each getting a pro assigned to them to learn from. The pros were Daigo, Tokido, Mago, Sako, Fuudo, Itazan, Bonchan and Haitani.
@srk_mcrae: I am excited to watch!
@srk_mcrae: @starvinggamer: I'm excited for Daigo to have another 128 Capcup points!
@hassun: I hope that when I have kids (maybe) and they grow up we will be advanced enough here in the West that I can send them SF U.
@srk_mcrae: looking forward to watching!
The method of champions (baiting DP into BnB is even more comical, though the spacing is unique to every different DP so would take a lot of work to nail it every time against every character):
@geraltitude: Central Canada you say? Where're you located? As a Winnipegger, I'm always looking for more for to mash with.
@fredchuckdave: LOL. Thanks for showing me who I should main. I love air movement bullshit. XD
