Hello,

I am new on GiantBomb and I can say, I am quite amused...

I do have some questions though. I read on a lot of forums people want to trade keys for other keys. Very cool, trading is awesome, but how do I get these keys? I can buy a game in Steam, okay. But do you duders( that's how you guys call eachother, right? ) buy two keys that you are able to trade them? How does this work?

Well, that's is all I can think of now. Off to doing some more quests.. or maybe some LoL.

Timothie :)

@Timothie: Unrelated to your topic, but don't attach any blogs to the forums that are strictly for questing! It'll piss people here off.

Also, I haven't seen many threads about CD Key trading so it definitely isn't a popular thing here.

There's a subforum in the Steam forums for trading keys and sites like cheapassgamer.com have one as well with features like feedback to help you not get burned. Giant Bomb isn't really a trading destination.

Sorry for starting this topic, as I said, I am really n00b with forums and still have no idea what Giant Bomb is all about. But I think it's a cool site I would like to get part of the community.

Sorry for my ignorance, but show some love to the noobs.

You didn't make this a blog, don't worry.

But key trading isn't much of a big thing here, it's not the most PC-centric website on the internet. We have a thread on the steam forums about trading excess Steam games that sprung up with the Steam trading stuff; that should probably sate your need.

Yep, trading with the Steam inventory system = safe (and you can buy duplicates for most games if you flag them as gift at purchase time then they go into your inventory if you don't send immediately; or this is how I've experienced it, YMMV per game title/limits) and trading actual CD keys = potentially safe but you might get into issues with grey market (cd keys sold at very low prices only valid in certain countries being traded globally by people not interested in the terms & conditions = potentially banned account for anyone who buys such a key; CD key created by keygen that is able to gen keys same as in retail copies = definitely banned when the real cd key owner uses their genuine key and that means hassle getting your account unbanned and without that game as you have to show you're just another victim and not the intentional evil guy who 'stole' the game via keygen).

Are you people really that kind?! :D

But I still have the question, how do people get these keys? I would give away some keys once in a while I think, but how do I get them? Just buy a pack of the games, so you could give them to friends?

@Timothie: It's just basically games in your inventory. You'll find more active trading on the Steam forums, though.

@Timothie: This is really one of the basics of Steam - you should read the Steam trading and gifting FAQ, it can be easily Googled.

Trading keys isn't that viable anymore as most games don't have keys let alone reusable ones. Even the old Blizzard game keys are required to be attached to a Bnet account to be used now. Last time key trading was big was around when CoD 4 came out. I guess you can trade steam gifts, which is somewhat safer. No people selling/trading the same key multiple times.
