I would have to agree with you on that they seem to be a WAY better deal then the first time it was relased and are a better buy; If you dont mind wating for them.

I have nothing against them, the only one I have bought was Oblivion GOTY Edition for the PC.

On the occasion where I have not purchased the game yet they are a sensational deal. Most times this isn't the case and it usually comes down to me deciding whether the convenience of having that DLC I didn't buy bundled with the game worth buying the game a second time at a reduced price. The answer isn't often yes.

I like them. I rarely feel like buying a game as soon as it launches so waiting for a GotY edition is a good option for me. Dreamfall TLJ GotY Edition was great with the the soundtrack CD and The Longest Journey included and so was Oblivion. I hope they release Dragon Age: Origins GotY with Awakening and all the DLC included this year.

GOTY editions are probably going to get even better now that games regularly release dlc that they will probably pack in with it.

I like them, mainly because I rarely buy games the end up having a GOTY edition ofter the original is released.

Lucky me I guess.

I like them when they aren't actually anyone's game of the year, and it's just a marketing thing.

What the hell are you talking about? "Snap it up" is a far more commonly used phrase than "snatch it up".

Anyway, as long as I don't already have the game and/or DLC, GOTY editions are a great thing. Hell, I'll sometimes buy them even if I have the regular edition just for the extras, providing I can find them cheap enough.

I love them. Only because I can later buy the original version at a much cheaper price.

It took me a long time in my younger life to realise that 'Game of the Year' was a bit of a misnomer, and that there could be, and were, multiple GotY titles.

I think that in our hallowed time of DLC, GotY titles are a great way to encourage people to snap up quality games with a little extra. Fallout 3 was a prime example of a title in this vein, eventually shipping with, what was it, 5 extra bits of DLC?

If it was up to the publishers, the GOTY would be every game.

Is there any study that proves that slapping a GOTY means increased sales? I'm guessing casual gamers would most likely see that every game is being called GOTY, and it loses any pull it once had.

It depends. I think Fallout 3's GOTY edition is totally awesome.

It usually is the game that you bought for 59.99 with all the download content which is another 30 bucks for the price of 39.99.  So early adopters get kind of burnt.   late adopters get rewarded.  So yes it pisses me off if I spent near 100 bucks on a game and then its 39.99 later down the road with all the download content and the content is movable from one xbox to another easily.
