In AC1 you could kill civilians and not lose any health when you finished the game. Maybe it works like that in AC2.

The jam on the screen definately makes it harder, if you get shot once, you can't see as well, and are therefore more likely to get shot, which causes more jam, and you get shot again. I sure as hell died a few times that level, but it took me nowhere near an hour. Use cover. A lot. If you jump out and see 3 guys in front of you, ...

I'm checked on my XP SP3 and Windows 7 machines, both running firefox, and it worked fine for both of them. Like others have said, try clearing your cache.
