Winner: LA Noire
That game was balls.
Runner Up: Dragon Age 2
Winner: L.A. Noire - I don't think it was necessarily a bad game, but I expected too much from it.
Runner up: Dirt 3 - I couldn't really get into the Gymkhana stuff and stopped playing after only a few hours. Dirt 2 was fucking amazing.
Winner: L.A Norie (Game was such a waste of potential. Came with a mile long list terrible design and story choices. And it didn't help that everyone felt a need to completely ignore all of its faults for the 1st month and claimed it the best thing since sliced bread)
Runner Up: Catherine (Great idea for a game, unique story, and gameplay that had some interesting gimmicks hindered by zero real sense of choice or things to do except talking to everyone, a story that goes on way longer than it should, and some of the worst pairing of control and camera angles during parts of the actual gameplay)
Winner: From Dust
Runner up: LA Noire
The worst part about LA Noire is that the beginning of the game totally seems like its going to live up to all the hype and be the greatest game OF ALL TIME! and then you realize you're doing practically nothing and there is three things to do in it.
Winner: LA Noire (I'm not sure why, but it just hasn't clicked with me as much as I wish it would have. Shame, cos it has so much potential)
Runner Up: Battlefield 3 (but mainly for the unbelievably lame single-player. The multiplayer is still fantastic, but the single player was horrendous. It's put here because they tried to sell it as a complete package CoD beater; but away from competitive multiplayer it's a game I wouldn't have accepted as a budget title in 2007. And, at least away from the multiplayer, it doesn't even look that gorgeous.)
Winner: Dragon Age II
Runner Up: RAGE
Dragon Age II was just terrible and RAGE is on there because I made the mistake of playing Carmack's Folly on my one computer with an AMD GPU, which ended up being fucking stupid. But Dragon Age II was really REALLY bad. I don't think there are enough words in the English language to state how bad that game was. It was so bad that I bought it on Steam and after I beat it I realized it wouldn't even be worth the bandwidth to pirate it. Then I hated myself. That fucking bad.
I've been toying with the idea of doing a Worst of 2011 blog later, but for now I guess I can put down a vote for "most disappointing."
Winner: Brink. Honestly, I did expect more from this game. Then I actually played it on the free weekends and discovered that its most-publicized features were turned into nothing more than gimmicks.
Runner-Up: Dragon Age 2. Blame the rushed dev cycle all you want, but the result was still far inferior to the first game.
Winner: Uncharted 3
Runner-Up: L.A. Noire
(Only went with L.A. Noire because I genuinely can't think of many games I've played this year)
Winner: L.A.Noire
Runner up: DA: 2
*I want someone to explain how dead island was bad? Since launch, I have found very very few glitches and the game is basically what they promised. Lots of zombies, resort island, killing, Co-op, weapon mods. Besides the lose of plot line the game works great and is awesome. So if someone can give me a legit reason on how it failed, please tell me.
Winner: Brink, I looked forward to it during the last weeks leading up to launch, even reserved it and got it on launch day. Needless to say, traded it within the week.
Runner Up: Dirt 3, they sold that game as the rally focused game the first Dirt was, and it only fell short. Tracks were disappointing, short, and dull.
Winner: Assassins Creed: Revelations: same thing over again for full price.
Runner up: Gears of War 3: just wasn`t as fun as the previous iterations.
Winner: Brink
Never have I been as burned on a game like this one. God I was stupid. Also, people saying DAII, how could you be disappointed by that game? There was so much shit going on before that game released I thought everyone thought it was going to be shit...
Also, I didn't play many games this year....well ones that came out this year, so no runner up
Winner: Skyrim
Runner Up: Little Big Planet 2
No excuse for them to release a game to a console if its broken. Don't take peoples money if you know your product doesn't work. They should have just not released the game on PS3 if they couldn't fix the problems. There's no way that somebody from testing on PS3 said "yup, this is perfect, ship it now." I am disappoint.
