I've wanted to know how people play. Do you guys like a small room with a little TV? A big room with a big tv, or a decent setup with a decent monitor next to your PC? Or is your PC your entire gaming center? For me, it's one working PS3, next to one PS3 phat that has a borked Blu ray drive, but can play PSN games fine. Next to that is my old, hot reciever, and a custom Tower, with a pretty good AOC monitor. Also some lighting accents when I'm playing at night.
Giantbomb, what's your gaming setup look like?
Something like this, old picture
ps3 is on the right of this, but I don't feel like taking a picture, might take one later. Have another sony 120hz 40"
for blu ray in another room and a lcd 50" downstairs.
a ton of speakers, have even bigger ones downstairs, but those are my pc speakers
@BestUsernameEver: antec 900, a bit modified with blue cold cathode lights.I have the cheapest Antec case they offer. The one with only two fans, thinking of upgrading soon and sticking with them, just need something that has working USB drives lol
I literally don't have a camera... but I could tell you I have a ps3 with the cheapest asus 1080p monitor I could find and a macbook pro... and some headphones... and 20$ speakers...
Excuse the bad quality pictures, but here's mine:
My desk with Macbook.
And here you can see exactly how close to each other they are
And down stairs is the Wii
Overall, I really enjoy my setup. It's basically all brand new for this summer. I bought the TV last Black Friday and had it at school ever since I got home for the summer a few weeks ago. I also put the desk in my room as I have always wanted a little workspace to get some homework done (taking three summer school classes).
This is what my old gaming setup used to be... (small picture alert)
42" Samsung plasma with a 360 and PS3 hooked up to it. The 360 is an Arcade with a 120gb hard drive attached to it, and the PS3 is an 80gb fat model.
All in all, not visually exciting.
26" TV I brought on the cheap a weeks back hooked to a slim PS3 which replaced my phat when it YLOD'd, around my bed are 5.1 speakers and next to the drawers my TV, PS3 and Amplifier sit on is my sub-woofer and Rock Band drums/guitar/mics.My PC gaming is a laptop, which lives everywhere, but when I game on it I'll sit it on a desk. I also have a shitty old blue sofa that I sit on sometimes when I game, but normally I chill on my bed. At university everything sits on my desk and points towards bed because I mainly game at night.
It's nice, I never touch my keyboard for games anymore weather it's a 1st person shooter, an RPG, an RTS, or a simulator.
I use an Onkyo 7.1 surround sound system that is hooked up to the PC/Xbox/PS3/TV but the damn thing is on the fritz so I have to replace the receiver at some point.
Can't see my 40" Bravia to the right in that photo.
Got the 1st 1080p TV on the market for wayyyy too much money.
@Orange: I have to ask even though it's not really on topic, what do you think of those bose speakers? I'm on the fence about buying a set for use with my consoles. What do you think of 'em?
By the footrest I have foot pedals I use with the computer to make my life easier when I've tired out my arms and fingers, one corresponds to middle mouse button, the other is F9, I use these to trigger Push to Talk and regularly used in-game abilities such as jetpacks.. The blanket makes soft a comfy typing experience for my arms, the keyboard should be replaced (currently being held up by a white microfiber cloth), and the speakers are Edriol MA-15D, sometimes found under the name Cakewalk they are 15w digital studio monitors and I recommend them if you want to combine console and PC with one system.
The apartment is a cheap junky rental in Sweden and I'm too lazy to get wider curtains, but the area I live in is freaking amazing. I don't do dubstep and two inspirations for my personal music is Zuntata and DAF. Hope to wrap up some tracks to share before long. (and yeah the top controller keyboard is disconnected at the moment, thinking about selling it)
May as well give folks the full tour since I see a lot of others doing so. CRAPPY WASHED OUT WEBCAM PICS TO FOLLOW:
Anyway, sad as it sounds, with my gaming space being my bedroom I need to keep it a little more neat and orderly or I go mad. For some spatial context: From the daybed set up to be a sofa - Shelves on the left. PC desk to the right. TV stand directly in front of it. The only exposed cabling in the room is the one that runs from the TV to the PC. Controllers when not in use are stashed away in a drawer under the bed. There's a tall coffee table in the middle of the room that I drag around constantly to serve as a stand for my arcade sticks or to prop my feet up on and veg out as I do my writing or play though I REALLY want to get a working Bluetooth dongle and a wireless mouse soon so I don't need to dig out the USB extension cables when I want to work or play games on the TV with the mouse/keyboard or PS3 controller set up.
I like it, though. It's interesting enough and the room itself has some sort of personality to it, even if I'm so very ashamed of it. And yes, that's a headcrab balanced precariously on my TV which is some 46" RCA model that I can't be bothered to look up for the life of me.
@SpasticHeathen: Why are you ashamed of your hobby? Just because you have games on your shelf instead of DVD's and/or novels doesn't mean it's something to be ashamed of. As far as I'm concerned having a room like that would be a great way to test potential people you are trying to bring into your life to see if they are worth getting to know. If they see it and act like dicks then you know they are not someone worth having in your life. I'm not saying that they need to be into games too, but anyone that would call you out on it or try to demean you or your hobby is someone you don't want to be with.
Mine is currently a mess, hopefully when I eventually move out I can set it all up in a better fashion.
