My dad wants to play a strategy game of some kind online. He doesn't want anything fast, shootem up, etc.

Any ideas?

How about a good Turn Based RPG game? it's the slowest genre I can already remember. Like chess, appropiate for a middle aged man.

Hrm... Civilization 4? Any TBS would be good really. Or if he doesn't mind an RTS something like Red Alert 3 might work.

EDIT: Yes I guess it must be said that something like WoW might be fun, not really a strategy game but nonetheless it could be fun.

Only if he doesn't mind the risk of addiction and the potentially subsequent loss of family and friends.

empire total war multiplayer, supreme commander multiplayer, command and conquer series, starcraft 2 when it comes out, homeworld 2 and homeworld 3 when HW3 comes out. plenty of good RTS out there.

But really now when you compare that to what you gain from WoW I think we can agree that the pay off is worth what you lose. Right? Right!?!

Let him try out one of the Total War games, preferably Rome: TW. If he likes the time period he should get a kick out of it. Also, if he is a Star Wars fan go with the old Star Wars Battlegrounds games. They are very easy and a lot of fun.

Sorry, that wasn't funny.

But seriously, I would say LittleBigPlanet, even though it isn't a RPG.

Command & Conquer, maybe. It might be considered "fast" though.

I hate it when avid gamers say this.

Yeah, Company of Heroes is probably the best of all games mentioned thus far IMO. It's also a bit more intimate and slower than many RTS games, and the WW2 setting may tick another 'dad' box. :)
