@trafalgarlaw: Its not Sony's fault ass-hats such as these lizard guys are attacking the network. And xbl is suffering the same problems today.
How's your online gaming services working?
The annoying part about this is seeing the dipshit figurehead of that group doing stunts like "1000 RTs and I'll turn Xbox Live back on," which of course a) He doesn't/can't do and b) ends up getting himself tending, which was all he was trying to do. Then I see people begging that Anonymous News account to "stop them," which again Anonymous isn't capable of doing, but even if they could they just say "white people problems, go be with your family." Twitter is a fucking cancer, if someone really wants to help screw with these pseudo-hackers, take Twitter offline so they are no longer able to speak.
Frankly, there is no stopping these attacks. These services are going to stay offline (or at least spotty) until the people behind it get tired of messing with it. Only way to change that is to change the way both Xbox Live and PSN operate at a base level. That ain't happening.
@deanoxd: Every. Single. Christmas. PSN was either offline or had severe problems. This time the lizards telegraphed their moves days in advance.
@trafalgarlaw: There is no defense for ddos attack, and psn was up and working fine for me last year. So i guess i missed your point.
@euandewar: Depends on how you're connecting if you're connecting directly to the PS4 then no you should be fine. If you're connecting through wi-fi then I'd say there might be a chance that would affect it.
Is this ddos attack for PSN confirmed or is this just a guess right now?
It wouldn't have taken this long to get it back up and running if it wasn't an attack, but no it hasn't been officially confirmed.
Well this kind of sucks, I bought myself a PS4 for christmas and was trying to log in to psn and set my stuff up.....
Guess I know why it's not working now.
anyway Hope you duders are all having a Good Christmas despite the whole ddos thing, and hope these lizard kids find somthing better to do with their hollidays.
Kim Dotcom is claiming he helped end the attacks by offering the Lizard dudes vouchers for Mega Privacy.
If true, just ugh.
I don't want to make controversial statements but these guys seem like the worst.
What is the message here? What are they trying to prove or do? Prove they are dicks? Mission accomplished .no go back to call people names on the Internet
@demoskinos: Ok, cheers and Merry Christmas!
14 hours now for PSN? I just want to buy one damn game off the store T.T and play it offcourse. I hate you influenza!

Why's everything still down, then?

I would guess it is partly both services doing tests to ensure full network stability and also system integrity checks to make sure it was just a DDOS attack and nothing else went on.
I'm a network dude at a Fortune 500 company. We get DDoSed all the time, primarily from China and Eastern Europe and we use a third party DDoS mitigation service. I make one phone call, identify myself, and give them the code word that corresponds to one of our sites around the world. 10 minutes later the attack has been mitigated. I know DDoS mitigation service is expensive, but shit, people are paying money for these services and Microsoft and Sony should invest the money to protect them. Maybe they do have a mitigation plan and maybe there are extraordinary circumstances that allow Lizard Squad to bypass their mitigation efforts but given the frequency and success of these attacks it doesn't seem like they have any kind of protection in place.

Uh yeah that was a terrible idea, they wont stop. This will only encourage them to do more of this shit.
Fuck this shit. XBAND has been down all day.
*edit* Sega NetLink still working like a trooper! Hackers cant take down Sega!
@71ranchero: Only SEGA Saturn can take down SEGA. Rock out bro!

Yeah, fuck that. Way to send the message that you'll get rewarded if you do this kind of stuff. This stops nothing if some of the same people reorganize under another group name. Which they will, eventually.
Oddly enough I had no problems with XBL at all yesterday. Not that I was trying all day or anything, but got on in the evening with no issues.

Well, one of the figurehead guys has posted stuff like "Nintendo for life" and "XBL and PSN down. Go buy a Nintendo system," although I don't know if he's legit mad about the other consoles or if he's just saying shit to stir it up more.
This sucks for everyone and I don't think it's ever going to stop.
I bet microsoft are pleased they ditched the check ins.
Remember when xbox live seemed like a rock solid service?
I know there is nothing anyone can do really it's just so pointless.
I'm not even angry I'm just sad, sad that someone gets so much pleasure out of such a pointless exercise
I feel sorry for the Christmas day noobs.
PSN still not working for me on PS4. It was fine on PS3. I am still able to use Netflix on PS4 though...Thank goodness that those apps aren't attached to PSN and just require a network connection.
I just had to put my 2 TB harddrive in my ps4 yesterday. Hoping the sercixe comes back soon so I can start actually downloading my games
@spraynardtatum: same here, I'm so thankful that those apps can't still operate. I was logged in a few minutes ago, but What's New, Throphies and profile wouldn't load. Tired to log out and log in again and now I cannot log in at all. I really wish I knew what point the hackers are trying to make.
