I remember playing this at my friends house somewhere around 1996-1998. It was a racing game with a very futuristic, metallic look where you would drive in super unrealistic courses with massive loops like trackmania. The graphics seemed really good at the time and were pretty shiny yet gritty. I also remember every car was able to fire projectiles. I know this doesn't narrow it down too much but somebody please tell me theyve played this before! A lot of great memories were had playing this game

Wasn't wipeout. This game also had very normal looking sports cars with a slight futuristic touch to them, they weren't racing pods or anything

Can't say for sure but I want to say it was only for PC. If it was for console it probably would've been more popular

Could it have been one of the titles in the MegaRace franchise? Those came out a bit earlier than the time range you specified, but I can't help but think of MegaRace 1 or 2.

The first thing that came to mind for me was Rollcage. Any chance it could be that?

@bananablade:  Megarace used FMV backgrounds, so yea they looked quite good, only they were just a video playing.
