May: the best month in gaming history?

Last month we saw the release of a bunch of games, some of which are not only amongst the best this year, but the generation so far. In particular:
 

• Super Mario Galaxy 2
• Red Dead Redemption
• Alan Wake
• ModNation Racers
• 3D Dot Game Heroes
• Lost Planet 2
• Alpha Protocol
• Blur
• Split Second
• and more.

It might be the best May in gaming history, but I'm not so sure about the best month ever. 

It's up there to be sure.

Like the previous months this year, it was all games that were supposed to be released in Winter, but were pushed back to prevent them to compete against MW2 and NSMBWii.

I remember this one time Modern Warfare 2 came out.  It was a pretty good month. 
 
But ya this month was solid.  Although I've only played 3 of those games.

I see three sequels in that list.

I haven't bought any games released this month and I won't, except for maybe Split/Second when it is £15 or less.   
 
Also, isn't Red Dead Redemption a sequel?

Blur, Alpha Protocol, Lost Planet 2 and more all aren't too great though...

Nope. Not even close. May '98, September '98, November '98 and that whole year in general are still untouchable. Here are the games that came out in a period of ~35 days (Oct 31 to Dec 3)

• F-22 Total Air War
• Railroad Tycoon 2
• Thief
• Ocarina of Time 
• Baldur's Gate
• Myth II  

Yeah this month has been pretty epic. Though June of 2006 was pretty memorable for me.

yeah Half Life and Ocarina of Time came out within three days of each other.  That wins everything.

well my memory is too foggy to remember how much hype there was before release but it definitely got A LOT of critical acclaim and attention when it came out.
