Playing a game with another game's sound track.

I finally got my PC to run games without crashing my display driver every 30 minutes, and although my current install of Windows 8 RP is pretty janky and FarCry 3 shows it pretty poorly (stuttering that wasn't present previously D:) I've been playing a lot of the game. The stuttering is finally getting to me so I decided to make the experience a little more appealing to keep playing a bit more before I set the game aside until my Windows 8 disc is replaced by newegg so I can install the OS properly and all that.

So I yanked the Hotline Miami soundtrack out of the game folder, threw it into VLC, and turned off the music in FarCry. And man, it's awesome! It really fits the game's craziness and other than overly long tracks, this is a pretty great sound track.

Has anyone else done this sort of thing? What did you find to be good matches?

And I'm not talking about any old album to put on, lets keep it to soundtracks from other games.

I tend to play Mass Effect multiplayer to the Dredd soundtrack.

I feel that the Hotline Miami soundtrack would work in any game.

Personally, my favorite combo is the Fez soundtrack paired with Skyrim. Exploring to that music is fucking amazing.

Does listening to StarCraft 1 while playing StarCraft 2 count?

I guess it could. I dunno, it puts me in a pretty particular mood, so I'm not sure if I'd agree with that.

I'll have to try that out with Skyrim though, sounds like it has potential.

Playing any stealth game with the MGS1/2 sound track makes the game 100x more awesome.

I play Minecraft with the Swords&Sworcery soundtrack

The FTL soundtrack to Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion soundtrack is dope.

Any game with Hotline Miami soundtrack is a good fit.

I'd always add tracks to Oblivion's sound folder from a variety of RPG sound tracks. Eschalon Book I, Etrian Odyssey, etc.

I like this thread, but I dunno if I can justify playing other games to the music of Hotline: Miami. Might make you like any game like a crazy addict psychopath.

I never use Minecraft's music, it's usually a random mashup of other games. Borderlands is a good sound track for that, Oblivion is pretty perfect as well, depending on how you play Minecraft :p

Hotline Miami's soundtrack works for any situation involving a computer. Or gang violence. Take your pick.

Though, I don't normally do this. I usually let the game's soundtrack back itself up or I shut the music off altogether. I don't play many multiplayer games either, and the only recent one that I have is Planetside 2 and I generally listen to podcasts when I play it.

I will often throw on the Mass Effect soundtrack (usually a playlist comprised of the tracks from all three games) when playing Halo multiplayer. Fits really well.
