Was 2012 kind of a bummer year for gaming?
It was pretty great. I think 2009 was probably the best year of this generation, but this year was pretty good. Every year is pretty good. There were a couple disappointing games like ME3 and Diablo III (not personally disappointing to me, but all of the backlash I heard was hard to ignore) some people didn't like Max Payne 3 that much (I really loved it). AC3 also seemed to be lackluster.
To me, the most disappointing thing of this year was the lack of quality PS Vita games (but I still have hope). But overall it's still a pretty damn good year. Halo 4, a new hitman game (at least it exists), dishonored, sleeping dogs, fez, borderlands 2, bastion, walking dead, mark of the ninja, far cry 3 (which seems promising) and xcom just to name a few!. There were a LOT of really great games this year, especially in the indie scene.
It was weird. All the big sequels were lame but the new IPs were awesome like Sleeping Dogs and Walking Dead. I hope developers wont be scared to try new stuff with the next gen since things like Sleeping Dogs, Walking Dead, and Dishonored did well.
So you have "Totally bad", "Kinda bad" and "AMAZING" as choices.... what about "It was okay" or "It was good"?
This year had XCom and that has been my favourite game in a very long time. Besides that it was just as bland and uninteresting as always.

I wouldn't say it was a bummer or amazing. Pretty good but not great.
Pretty much this; there's no need for so much polarisation.
Also, it's a bit early to talk about 2012 is past tense isn't it?
Mark of the Ninja, Dishonored, Halo 4, Journey, FTL, Sound Shapes, Spelunky, Sleeping Dogs, Walking Dead, Hell I was just playing some Mass Effect 3 and enjoying the hell out of that Blasto poster on the Citadel.
Hilarious.
It's been a pretty good year for me at least.

Neither. It was no 1998 or 2004, but good games came out this year.
Dont forget 2008 the greatest year of gaming there was!
Doesn't this thread get made every year? I feel like this thread gets made every year. Let's start keeping track of this.

2007 was probably better.

Way better than last year. New games like XCOM, Sleeping Dogs, Walking Dead ruled. Yearly installments like Assassins Creed, Halo, WWE, Need For Speed, Call of Duty, and Forza were all better this year. borderlands 2 lived up to the original. Mass Effect 3 apparently isn't ME2, but triumphs over most of what comes out in a given year. And there were a lot of great indie games, Fez, Journey, Trials, Mark of the Ninja. Far Cry might be great. And the PC had a rare banner year with Diablo.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was a massive bummer, as there were plenty of good games that I played, but just the general quality wasn't quite as high, and the highs weren't quite as high. For example, my game of the year is Crusader Kings II, and I can think of FOUR games from 2010 that I could make a good argument for being better than CKII - those games are Civilization 5, Mount&Blade: Warband, Mass Effect 2, and my 2010 GOTY Red Dead Redemption.
So I voted B. My expectations for 2013 are pretty high though, due to BioShock Infinite, Europa Universalis IV, Total War: Rome 2, and SimCity.

I never felt that 2007 was all that good a year. Some of those games listed had their defining sequel later. I would say 2008>2010>2009>2011>2007>2006. Not including 2012 because it is not over and had no time for reflection.
Big AAA titles were pretty lackluster. This was a great year for Japanese and indie games. Xenoblade, Asura, Fez, and Walking Dead we're some of my favorite games this generation.
i put B, but i guess thats due to the general reception of a lot of the bigger titles this year, personally, iv loved it (because i don't play a lot of the bigger titles) and the only game that really disappointed me was Darksiders 2, but i guess i found this year lacking on the AAA front. im going to stuggle coming up with a top 10 list that doesn't include expansions for older games which is a bit of a pet peeve of mine with GOTY lists

yerp, lotz of decent sequels that didn't live up to their predecessor's hype
Pretty much this for most of the big budget games. Except instead of previous years' "Why didn't you change anything" like with Killzone 3, Uncharted 3, Arkham City, and the entire Call of Duty series, the feeling is more "You kinda fucked up and I'm not sure this series is for me anymore", which is the sentiment I'm hearing from Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3, Assassin's Creed 3, and Hitman: Absolution (I admit I have not played all of those games).
Indie/lower budget games were pretty awesome this year, though.
I found it a great year. Dozens and dozens of games on the backlog with more to follow. Long live the Xbox 360!
Final Fantast XIII-2, Devil Survivor 2, Max Payne 3, Dragon's Dogma, and especially the Walking Dead have made this a great year for me.
and I still have Zero Escape to get through. So yeah, I chose C.
