For me it would have to be David Jaffe, Tim Schafer, and Yoshinori Ono, mostly because they all seem to have a lot of passion for what they do and it shows in there games.
Who are your favorite people in the industry and why?

Gabe Newell because he's a PC saint, Lars Gustavsson because I owe him years of Battlefield, and.. that's it
Al Lowe, Tim Schafer, and Ken and Roberta Williams. I know that's four, but I don't really seperate out the Williams' in my head.
Like right now?
Gabe Newell
Ken Levine
and probably...ahh...I want to say Ueda but who the hell knows what's happening with that guy...
There are a lot of backstage contributors, that aren't necessary in every E3 interview out there but are masters of the craft. Dave Warfield and Gregory MacMartin are a good example of this, whoever knows this 2 guys know what I'm talking about.
Anyway out of the "public figures" my vote goes to Sid Meier, one of the few who hasn't built it's fame with guns and monsters, good old actual quality game design.
Dan and Sam Houser along with Gabe Newell. As long as these guys are around, I'll have something to play.
Does Jeff Green count? I think he's still at Popcap. Just a funny, likeable guy whose down-to-earth nature appeals to me.
After him, Peter Molyneux. I know, I know but he talks some great shit. As a carnival barker-like showman, he's great.
Tomonobu Itagaki. I used to like him because he was so very different from other Japanese designers like Shigeru Miyamoto. But, now I like him because that "rock-n-roll" persona was a facade. I'm curious to know more about what he's really like.
My three choices have less to do with the games they make and more with the personalities they have in the public eye.
Suda 51 for being insane- and I mean, genuinely insane.
Miyamoto because he's totally awesome.
And Brad Muir because he's just so damn cuddly, and Trenched taught me how to love again.
Oooh this is tricky -- namely because I forget ...erhm, names. That and there's so many influential and important people out there. Hmm, I'm going to go with some childhood favs Hironobu Sakaguchi, HIdeo Kojima and Nobuo Uematsu. Hmm. On the FF kick, I feel the need to add Amano, just for his amazing concept artwork over the years.
