Nothing too surprising from me, but without much thought put into this, my top 5 choices would probably be something like this:

  1. Valve
  2. Capcom
  3. FromSoftware
  4. Naughty Dog
  5. Arkane Studios

There's a couple smaller and/or up and coming studios that I have my eye on but need a bit more from them before they can crack the list. Similarly, there's companies like Bungie and CDPR that I loved, but their recent releases have soured me a bit.

There have been a lot, and none of them are still around :/

  • Westwood
  • Origin Systems
  • Sir-Tech
  • Digital Integration
  • Digital Image Design
  • Psygnosis
  • Looking Glass Studios
  • Cryo Interactive
  • Coktel Vision
  • Time Gate

... I suppose Blue Byte is still technically around, but as part of Ubisoft they don't get to make anything interesting anymore

Just in terms of sheer number of different games and franchises that I like? Probably Konami, honestly.

It's a shame that Psygnosis was closed down since 2012.

Nintendo Playing Card Co.

They really sold out when they started making video games. Filthy casuals.

I have a lot of love for the developers that were putting stuff out in my formative gaming years, mostly British 8 & 16 bit ones as they were who I had access to. Bubble Bus, Sensible Software, The Bitmap Brothers, Gremlin, Bullfrog, Psygnosis, Ocean and Magnetic Fields are the companies that I think of most fondly from then.

More recently I'd say there are a few indies that'll check everything they put out because of trust in them, but otherwise I don't really have a favourite from the bigger names. The companies are much more soulless as an entity (even if they put out amazing titles) these days, I end up taking each release as it comes, rather than seeking out a developer/publisher. Although saying that IOI might just be getting into my 'must seek out' brain section.

Nice choice, also what's your thoughts on the coming up Senran Kagura and Neptunia crossover?

It ain't 7even, but I'll take it; just anything to signify that Senran Kagura isn't just Japan only mobile gacha these days.

And just to go on a tangent about 7even for bit: I don't care if "Sony check" means that intimacy mode will never be a thing again (which I honestly never used in any of the games) and that all the girls' breasts sizes would be reduced to a B-cup with no jiggle. I just want a solid anime beat-em-up and/or third-person shooter with amusing characters.

@gtxforza: Even by 2012 very little was left of the original Psygnosis, which had been split up into multiple smaller developers with Sony Liverpool just still retaining the IPs (though Wipeout was the only one they continued). Classic Psygnosis probably ended around the tail end of the PS1 era, around 2000.

Back in the day Bullfrog no doubt. They made so many great games.

Today it's From Software hands down. Absolutely adore the soulsborne series and Sekiro was great to. All bangers basically.

Squaresoft, Monolith Productions, Konami & Bullfrog. I do also have fuzzy feelings for Lucasarts adventure games.

Supergiant: I think all their works are beautiful and finely crafted.

Subset: Love both FTL and Into the Breach even though I don't typically play games like those.

Capcom: So many classics, but Street Fighter and Resident Evil are my favorites.

Westwood: A lot of fond memories from the C&C and Red Alert series.

Remedy: Max Payne 1 and 2 mostly. Haven't played Control yet, but seems up my alley.

Blizzard: Used to be great and everything they made was solid. But as much I have loved the Diablo series, I am skeptical of anything they put nowadays. Not optimistic about 4.

Working Designs

Bullfrog

LucasArts

Atlus

Working Designs was the first publisher that I actually sought out the games because they were Working Designs games. I know that they are not seen as the model for porting Japanese games now, but to early teenage me seeing those ads for Lunar in game magazines? I was blown away. I sold all my NES games at a flea market just so I could buy a Sega CD and Lunar. I bought the rest of their games on Sega CD and Saturn from there and was never disappointed, though some were better than others.

I have never been much of a PC games, but Bullfrog gets a mention and I played the hell out of Tie Fighter and enjoyed the Monkey Island games. I was huge into the Wing Commander games as well, but didn't think Origin as a whole was a draw.

Atlus is the company that I've really been behind for the past 15 years. I don't buy all their games, but I certainly take a good look at them.
