Do you enjoy GTA Online?
I've been enjoying my time with it, just got around to buying an apartment in-game. Lot of fun helping people do heists and hold up shops.
...then there are the parts where some people are fuckers and I get kicked out of the lobby. fuuuuck that noise. So much kick abuse in this multiplayer.
@uberexplodey: what do you mean heists? I thought those weren't in yet
I think so.
At least I was until I realised you lose money from your bank every time you die, even in death matches and races.
I'd like to buy garages and apartments, but if that comes at the cost of not being about to piss about in the open world for fear of haemorrhaging money, then I'm not so sure. And that in turn makes me feel bad that I'm worried about customising a virtual apartment in an open world crime game, with missions where you can shoot other players on bikes from jets.
It seems like there are some really cool ideas, but the free-to-play hooks make me antsy. It's like "fun" is getting in the way of what they want you to do; play dress-up with your avatar and show off your virtual apartment to your virtual friends.
@pyrodactyl: I guess I mean missions that aren't team deathmatch bullshit, my bad.
I stole someone's car and drove it into the ocean and the game made me pay for it and said I had bad feedback. So what I'm saying, is that GTAO is fucking stupid as hell and pointless.
I'm not really sure. I feel I'm barely scratching the surface with GTA online, but at the same time I feel like maybe I'm just hoping there's more to it. So far I think I've done about.... 10 "jobs". I did a bunch of coop missions with friends, but they seem a bit boring as of now... they're mostly just go to point A, get something and bring it back to point B with either cops or some other type of enemy after you. Not to mention those lame cut scenes... I understand that getting voice actors for the multiplayer character would probably be a little difficult, but those cut scenes just make me cringe when I turn in a mission.
Most of the game feels like a grind. I think I can barely afford a 2 car garage and so far I only have an uzi, shotgun and pistol with little to no attachments since they cost so much. Now that I think about it... all those hidden rules, the grinding feeling of it all and the lack of interesting things to do makes GTAO not fun...
I voted no, purely because I am still stuck at the first race with a never-ending "Launching Session" screen.
Me too.
It's alright. First guy I actually interacted with decided to steal my car, give me his two star wanted level, and the run me over though. When joining friends and / or crews actually works, then it'll be much more fun. As of now I've just robbed a few stores and decided to hike up Mount Chilliad (after swimming/getting swept down a river) because why not.
I wish there was an option to play with other players in a passive mode constantly, like MMOs where there are PVP and PVE servers. I was just in the store checking out some clothes when I get fucking griefed. This is why I don't like going online. It's either play a solo session or wait for my friends to go online which they rarely do.
For a grind, it is not so bad. You can team up with two people and steal coke from some ballers for 3 grand. Or steal a RV with a meth lab. Or a boat. Its easier with more people, and its a lot more fun. Racing is fun too (although its hard to find people to race with).
The real fun is the competitive play. The businessman escort is by far the most fun I have had.
The real meat of the game is planning heists i assume, which will take a lot of time and patience.
This is like my World of Warcraft, I am loving it.
I have been playing with a group of 5 friends and im enjoying it quite a bit. At lower levels theres not much variety and the Death-matches are boring because you only have 3 guns, but as you rank up you get more modes and more weapons so it gets better. We wrre having tons of fun during a game mode where one team on dirt-bikes are running from a team of jets. Also with my group just running from the law and doing stupid shit is fn...just like an open-world should be.
Also i wish all the Deathmatches went to "Free Aim" because the GTA lock on makes it too easy,or make my friends switch to free aim.

The mode is automatically set to whatever the host is using for aiming preferences. If you want free aim, make sure you are hosting. Anytime I go to join a competitive game and it tells me they are using lock on, I just say no to the prompt and it backs out.
I spent yesterday playing without friends (they were busy) and mostly joining matchmaking deathmatch, racing etc. I thought it was alright, but it could really use some work in it's organization. However, I played a 3 player free for all with friends, and we all had voice chat, and it was fantastic. First we were shooting each other like normal, then we tried being sneaky, then one friend got in a motorcycle and that's where it got crazy. We would kill the motorcycle rider, then take the bike and get killed by someone else, this was kinda hilarious because it's impossibly difficult to shoot while driving. After a while of this, we all grabbed motorcycles and started circling around each other with sawed-off shotguns and basically started jousting each other. We missed almost every single time but when you pulled it off it was hilarious. Eventually I ran out of ammo so I jacked a car and began running over my friends who were on bikes. They thought this was a dick move (and it was) so they grabbed cars as well and since I couldn't run them over anymore my only option was to flee. I just drove out as far as the map would take me, which seemed to be endless, until I eventually was knocked over and my health was whittled down after crashing about 1000 times.
It was fucking awesome.
I played for a few more hours last night and had a pretty good time for the most part.
Trying to do much of anything like browse the real estate website or go get a haircut in free roam was still a pain in the ass. I did have a nice conversation with a couple of other players about all the "griefing" going on. One of them was continually fighting off the same guy over and over again while talking to us. He must have killed the same guy a half dozen times in as many minutes. Eventually we figured out we could vote to kick him out from the Online tab of the pause menu. It worked, but it was still an unpleasant situation to have to deal with.
Using the lobby system to jump from Job to Job allows you to avoid the free roam. That ended up being a great way to enjoy some multiplayer. There were four duders including me in our group of six or eight and we cycled through a dozen or so Jobs one right after the other before server issues kicked me out. There wasn't a whole lot of variety of things to do, but @grimmie92 did a fine job hosting by mixing up the parameters of the activities that were available. There was one particular race where he chose SUV's in the rain. That was a hilarious (to me) clusterfuck of soggy loaves sliding around crashing into everything.
At this point my advice would be if you're hosting choose to invite friends and crew only. It must send invites to every friend and crew member that's online whether they're in your instance or not. I don't see how we ended up with four of us in the same group if it didn't. If you can mostly fill a lobby like that you're likely to have a good time.
Not so much right now. I played a bit 2 days ago, bought some clothes, got a car and robbed a store. Showed maybe some potential.
I came back today, my female character was now a man, had different clothes (that looked glitched btw), my car and all my money was gone. So yeah, fuck GTAO for now.
I voted yes but im not 100 %. I agree that its a bit grindy, even with the missions. They're all just variations of two possible, kill people-get drugs-deliver drugs or kill people-get cars-deliver cars. Now I agree that is GTA in general but its always wrapped in some sort of interesting story or circumstance, this just feels.. empty. Free roam, on PS3 anyway is mostly horrible since you cant mute anyone and you have to listen to someone breathing heavily while shooting at you for no reason. I'm waiting for more stuff to lock up, I am rank 17 now and did a few "survival" modes which were pretty fun and very challenging. I dont know, I might be done with this in a week.
I try to play online but it isn't working. First time it bugged out like hell and I was inviseble, then inside a white world with no geometry, then stuck in the ground. I later managed to do the tutorial but since then it just says Connection Timed Out and I cannot play.Playing on PS3 in Europe.
It's awesome...when it works.
Apart from losing something like 5% of your money on every death, yes.
Psht...Don't die.

You can mute players in the 'Online' tab of the 'Pause' menu. 'Players' I believe is where it can be found there.
Can't wait to get them gun turrets installed on my mini-cooper muahahaha.
Fix your shit R* i wanna go back to GTA Online.
I said yes but that is a qualified answer. I enjoy that they have given me more things to do in the immaculately designed world they made and some of those activities are genuinely thrilling to me. However, the way they gate equipment such as guns and better body armor behind rankings is making the missions themselves tedious but also, far more intense than the gunfights in the single-player. So there are some trade-offs, but at the end of it I'm pretty keen on it. The tense journey to an ATM after a successful mission is pretty awesome.
I've been having a lot of fun with it (12 hours in) but that's because I play with my (IRL) friends. We have mics so that's what makes it more engaging. I agree that the economy is pretty fucked. The most expensive house is 400k and the amount of money you get for robbing stores and doing missions is pathetic. I won't be using real money for virtual money though because there's this one mission that takes like 3 minutes to complete and gives you $9000. We replayed it a bunch of times and made over $50,000 in like 10 minutes.
@awesomeusername: No Hay Bronco, right? The one where you gotta destroy the gang vehicles. I did the same thing with a small group as well with an older character that was unfortunately one of the characters I ended up losing. Back then you could just keep replaying the mission as well, though they've (understandably) changed that now to stop spamming.
@demoskinos: Sorry I didn't accept your tennis invite yesterday. I had a car for Simeon that paid out a little over $10K and I didn't want to bail on it.
Haven't been able to get it to work for me yet. I'll probably wait another week before checking it out.
Even though the game services server went to shit today and couldn't start any jobs/missions i had a great time with @coafi messing around in the free roam mode.
I had other selfies but this is the only one which saved in that session.
Finally got back in. Got a room with a couple of dudes keeping it going. It's been awesome. I currently have like 30k in my wallet, and now I stuck in a perpetual loading screen and afraid the progress to all this joy is going bye-bye. Gosh darn it! I want my nice high end apartment with 10-car garage at the beach!
This is what happened today.
Update -- 3:00 PM ET 10/5/13:Update -- 5:30 PM ET 10/5/13:
- GTA Online on PS3 has been down for part of today and we have been working with Sony to stabilize connection on that platform as quickly as possible. We are also very aware of the continued issues with loss of characters, money, rank, and items, and are focused on identifying the root causes and resolving the issue for players. More updates on that topic will be posted here: http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200435267-Loss-of-characters-rank-items-apartment...
- We have worked with Sony to stabilize connection on PlayStation 3 but have been experiencing some network service issues over the past hour. We are working on fixes and you should see improvements shortly.
Good thing it is being fixed.
Repeating what others have said, it's quite fun when it works. Just had a few races with some people from the GB Crew and that was a blast. It's just waiting endlessly for the game to load, only to have it time out that is the real problem for me. That, and the fact that heists aren't in the game yet. I'd like to think that some of the problems would have been sorted by then, but I bet it will just add a new bunch of heist related problems.
I knew this was coming. I found it hilarious that Rockstar 100% pulled off "shit, a part our game isn't going to be ready for launch... so let's delay it and claim it's this ambitious new direction" when if you actually listened to what they were saying it sounded exactly like Red Dead's multiplayer. I'm pretty surprised so many people (industry-people, no less) are still looking at developer-voiced announcements and taking them completely at face value. You gotta look past the fancy words.
edit: I should say I had tons of fun in Red Dead's open-world online play, and I'm sure the same will apply here... but it certainly isn't anything super special.
Basically, yeah. I've enjoyed racing people and doing missions with other players, but in many ways it feels like a jankier version of the single-player game. It's a lot of the same gameplay in the same location, but server issues and various lobby screens come together to mean you're waiting around doing nothing for longer than feels okay, and you're kind of at the whim of other players' co-operation a lot of the time. Then the tutorial stuff is just kind of terrible, with the game continually spitting out lengths of text into the top-left corner that you're meant to be able to read while playing normally. I suspect it will be better with friends and when Rockstar have more of the connection issues ironed out.
@demoskinos: Sorry I didn't accept your tennis invite yesterday. I had a car for Simeon that paid out a little over $10K and I didn't want to bail on it.
Lol, no hard feelings bro. I just click the mass invite button and see who shows up. I can't expect a man out there trying to get some paper to stop and play tennis. GET PAID SON.
I advise people to get into a playlist with randoms, or friends and hang with the same group through random races, deathmatches, etc. Even better if people are on mics and chatting. It's a TON of fun, and by the end of an hour or two, you'll dump out to the open world with like 30k and 2 or 3 levels.
Try not to judge this too harshly right now. It's obvious a LOT of content is slated to be added in. Right now it's about Rockstar getting their footing. The potential is huge. It does need a lot more customization options, clothing, hair etc.
And if you hate it because you couldn't get on the first day or two, don't waste your breath discussing it. Yes, sorry, you got caught up in a launch shitstorm. It's happened before and it will happen again. Come back and try the actual game.
The one knock is the pacing. GTAO definitely keeps its cards close to the vest until later levels. Which isn't exactly a fast process. It could use a boost, just to keep things fresh.

I had other selfies but this is the only one which saved in that session.
Ha! That's so cool! You can take selfies while parachuting?!
Had a pretty solid time with fellow duders today. Went through all 10 waves of survival, which paid out a solid 20k.
@yummylee: No, it was called Violent Duct and it was a mission for Gerald. We went under a bridge where a coke deal was going down right next to the strip club. Shot like 15 dudes, drove the coke to Gerald and kept restarting (not replaying!) the mission. We did it just last night. You restart a mission by pressing R2 when everyone likes/dislikes the mission. I don't think they fixed that so we abused the hell out of it. We're going to play again tonight so hopefully we can get that mission. I need the most expensive house ASAP. While the games fun, it's getting quite boring.
I'm going to add you on PSN by the way. (I know your PSN ID, I be creepin')
