I choose D. I cannot imagine my life without the Internet. The people I've met would not exist without it, and my life would be drastically different, less fun, less enlightening.
Can you imagine your life without the Internet? (Question of the Day 2-10-11)
I distinctly remember not having internet access (or even a computer, for that matter) when I was a kid. It's not that bad.
this for the first 11 years of my life. well, we had internet, but it wasn't constant, since if someone went online, you couldn't use the phone." I distinctly remember not having internet access (or even a computer, for that matter) when I was a kid. It's not that bad. "
Sure, I grew up before the internet as we know it today existed, so it would just be like the first half of my life again. Now, that would be a very bad thing since not having access to every bit of information and entertainment at any time of day would have a profound effect on my life, but it wouldn't be like living without electricity or something. Reading paper books and newspapers would come back into fashion again as would local multiplayer in games.
Yes, I can imagine my life without the internet and it would be very difficult. The internet is my source for TV programmes, music, news, and research. The internet is also rather integral to my university work, it's means of contact for friends who I've met online or know in real-life but live very far away, it allows me to have discussions on a scale I couldn't possibly have offline, and it's a place where people can actually view the things I write.
Yes, it would probably bear some resemblance to what my life was like before I had the Internet. I'm probably close to ten years older than the average user on this site, so it wasn't a big part of my teenage or even early adult years.
I suppose I'd have to make more trips to the library when I need some useless piece of misinformation, rather than typing it into google or wikipedia. And I'd have to start going to the porn shop again instead of just browsing tube8. And I'd have to start using checks again. And buying games from Gamestop instead of ebay.
Other than that, it would be business as usual.
This is actually quite timely of the past 2 days I have had no internet and I nearly went stark raving mad. I did just not have any thing to occupy my time I find it hard to watch most TV show they just feel played out, but the worst part is all most all my games are from steam so I did not have any games ether.
Hmm tough question. I think I would be able too but it would take a long time to get used too. I'm always on the internet now so I am accustomed to going to that every time I am bored, need information, talk to certain people, etc. At the beginning I would die without it but eventually I would get used to not having the internet and I would be able alright....it'll just take time.
C.
There's so much information to be found, so much to learn, to do, people to meet, read about, stalk, irritate, date, see, laugh at, laugh with, game with...
I have actullt reccently been without internet since Monday, I have been at work so I have been out there alot of the time, but I find myself lost as to what to do. Youtube, Facebook, Giant Bomb, Wikipedia, iPhone apps which require the internet, appstore and iTunes, Online games. I was lost!
" I guess there's always those Victorea Secret Catalogs for personal use, I guess. "I lol'd big time.
Anyway i answered C because the internet gives you easy access to great amounts of useful information and helps you communicate with people that it would be impossible to keep in touch with if it weren't for its existence.
Yes (C). I grew up in a secluded little town in Wyoming. I imagine my life would be a lot like it was when I was a kid and couldn't easily get to the library. I'd still be buying some games based solely on what the box said, or what Nintendo Power told me to buy. And I would still suck at researching stuff. You mean I have to go to this cabinet with index cards, and use my hands to search through thousands of books, then go physically get the book? Fuck it. I'm just going to write about whatever is in this book and this magazine right here.
I picked C, because instantaneous communication and information has become such a key to the way we live, that it'd be sort of weird to go back to it. At the same, time lifewas still good without, so I could go without it.
G. I'll just study more Japanese all day. And work out more. And I probably wouldn't smoke as much.
Now that I think about it the Internet is really holding me back. Shit.
I'm 32. We had high speed internet when I was 19, and before that I had dial- up modem internet since I was 16 or 17.
So I can remember life without internet. Kinda sucked. Waiting for information via television or magazines was crummy. On the plus side, the only way someone could troll you was to do it to your face, and then you could smack 'em for their efforts.
A lot of the people in the world have no internet. I lived half of my life without internet, and I survived very well. I am pretty sure the world would continue (after the world economies collapsed) and people would get on with their lives.
Having spent 1969 to 1992 without the web, I can say life was pretty damn nice living in the pre-digital age. It would be without a doubt be weird to suddenly go without it now, but people would adjust.
I almost see the web as the ultimate spoiler of life.
- In the past it would be exciting to see friends or family I have not seen in awhile. There was a thrill of absence that would then make reconnection sweeter.
- In entertainment it was thrilling when something new would be put out as a movie, tv show, or turn up on a radio. The debuted of something was thrilling when you have no idea that thing was coming out.
- In school it was interesting that your 'view of the world' was up to what the teacher could do with books and having your go to the library. For an important paper for school you might go to a university library or a state library to find reference books you would need. The search for information was important.
These days nothing we do is important to do now, there are so many opportunities to connect in other limited ways that we forget how important it is to have substantive connections with people and ideas. That I think is the loss we have in the Internet Age, our connections to people are illusionary and insubstantial. So if were to go back I think something would be better…bittersweet…but more real.
I remember my life without internet, and it was fine. I don't think it would be that much of a problem after some time, in fact I believe it could be somewhat richer.
I do believe the internet is as important to the progress of the entire species as was the invention of writing, though.
Ever since the advent of broadband internet, I've become completely wired.
Yeah, my life was fine before I spent a quarter of every day online, but after having been spoiled for so long, I figure that I would have about 3 days before killing myself due to sheer boredom.
I've spent a year without internet and that was actually pretty great. Right now, I don't think so. It's such a important part of modern life, pretty much makes everything easier.
First World problems.
I can imagine my life, but I chose B. Not only would the lack of wikipedia make life a lot harder (for both work AND general info), but since I do courses in IT, sometimes the internet can be an essential part of the course. Hell, if it weren't for the internet, I probably wouldn't have even picked IT.
I really like the friends I've made online as well.
I think that my life would be different without internet. I would have a different hobby and find different ways to entertain myself for sure! I would do things like drawing, outside work, and other stuff that people have done in the old days. I think that I would be more physically fit for sure, as I think I would be more of an outdoorsy person. However, I think I would be a lot more lonely than I am now if I was like that. With the internet, I think it makes me totally opposite of what I could be. Honestly, I like and prefer being the non-outdoorsy person that likes to use the internet cause I do feel less lonely because of having the luxury of internet. It's like I'm lonely without being lonely. I can't describe it or put what I mean into words. Even if I'm not as physically fit as I would like to be, I accept the consequences by having some sort of life or connection to people over the internet. So answer G is best suited for me.
C. There are game magazines so I can still read up on my favorite games but it would be a more expensive avenue to take. I wouldn't have been able to build my own computer because it was essentially the internet that taught me as well as online stores I purchased the components at an affordable price. Etc, etc, etc.....
i can't imagine my life without internet. it's my life, i enjoy the internet a lot. my brother offered me to move in with him but he doesn't have cable or internet. i told him no, because he doesn't have internet. i could deal with no cable because there are things on the internet that i could watch. i do think that i could probably get a lot of video games done. also, it was going to be sleeping on the couch.
I'd probably honestly be in a better place without constant internet access. If all the time I've wasted distracting myself with online this and that had been instead put into something more productive, I'd probably be either smarter, more knowledgeable, harder-working, or better at music. Maybe even all of those.
yeah, considering I lived my first 16 years of my life without internet, I think I can imagine it. I remember the world before the internet
