@Ryax: Did Kataklysm change drummers? I saw them live six or seven years back in Kamloops, and their drummer was playing sooooooooo much faster.
Oh, and I have to pimp out the band of my best friend growing up. http://www.myspace.com/Kataplexis Remember their name, they are unsigned right now but after playing with, and sometimes upstaging, bands like Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, IMpaled, Fuck The Facts, Cattle Decapitation, Zimmers Hole, Misery Index, Soilent Green, Lightning Swords of Death, and Septic Flesh, this band is going to make it somewhere.
I listen to metal almost exclusively... Once you get a taste for it, there's really no reason to bother with any other genres. I mostly listen to metalcore, but I like to mix it up a bit. Some of my favorite metal bands:
Rammstein, Caliban, August Burns Red, 6th Awakening, Dethklok, Enemies Laid to Rest, Between the Buried and Me, Maximum the Hormone, Heaven Shall Burn
@MonetaryDread: they used to be alot faster yeah. i do believe they changed drummers like 5 years after their first release? but im not quite sure. and if your friends band ever comes to seattle ill see em for sure. pretty brutal shit. i wouldnt say better than black dahlia murder (im very biased when it comes to them) but definetely a possible show stealer
Yeah, they didn't show up that band in particular, cuz Black Dahlia is the shit, but they played better than most of the bands mentioned. As for Kataklysm, I am a drummer myself, and gravity blasts are fucking crazy!
Nah, I don't like the loud stuff. I like music that just sounds good, preferably with no lyrics. So that's like Mozart or techno or whatever, as long as it's not loud and trying to be negative, or ruined by someone singing over the notes.
I am a huge fan of mostly older metal bands like Iron Maiden, Ozzy and the like. The only newer band that I really like is Killswitch Engage. Howard is a great vocalist and they have some really kickass songs.
