When it comes to Games & DVDs I am always a sucker when it comes to buying the edition that comes in the tin case. Does anyone else fall for this marketing trick or have we got the oversaturation point where its no longer a limited collectable.
Does tin boxes do it for you?
Oh god yes. I often decide whether or not to get special editions of games on the merit of the tin box.
When it comes to games though does it not bother you when the spines dont match the rest of your games?
I wouldn't pay extra for one, but I wouldn't have a problem if it were standard for a certain game. On that note, I really miss the big cardboard boxes that PC games came in.
No, I don't like tin boxes. I'd rather have a regular case because they look better on the shelf next to all my other games.
I like them but some of the cheaper ones get scratched very easy. My mass effect tin looks a lil worn, the same as my Killzone 3 tin :(
No. The only one I have is from Halo 2, and it wasn't the greatest box art by any means. The special edition really wasn't worth the extra $10.
What?
This is a really weird thread, not in the question but really in the responses to the question.
Do you like tin boxes? FUCK YEA I DO!
I only go for tin boxes personally if the original box art is horrid. Like ME2
On another note, this is more prevalant with movies, but do you keep the slip of paper attached to the back of the tin, or do you throw it out. I find it hard to throw it away, usually I fold it up and place it inside.
Tin boxes are basically the reason I buy Collector's Editons nowadays. Especially that one that came with Marel Vs. Capcom 3.

It's a combination of design and if it's a tin box for me. If it's tin box but has an ugly design then I will pass on it. In most cases tin boxes tend to have the best designs though. I guess my favoites are the Bioshock and Lost Planet ones.
Funny that you mention that, since now that you bring it up, I'm remembering how much I hated that game when I bought it, but how gorgeous that tin box ended up being. Between that, MvC3 and Dead Rising 2, it's pretty clear that Capcom is one of the few companies that "gets it" when it comes to making really awesome looking Limited Edition boxes.
I've got a lot of em from special editions and whatnot, and I don't really like em. I don't need them taking up the extra space on the shelf, and two of them have issues holding the disks they contain in place(the halo ones). I think the glue that binds the dvd holder just sucks or something. I want regular boxes (or no box at all) and the bonus content on the side -_-;; The Mass Effect one is cool, but after a few moves, they're dinted. dunno.
Oh, and worst box ever was that original Viva Pinata one. That thing was awful.
Only if it has the name on the spine, Splinter Cells SE doesn't have it and it bothers me for some reason so I keep it in the plastic thing with the art book on my shelf.
They are nice, but I don't buy them and I don't care how my games are packaged. If I had more storage elsewhere there'd be a lot fewer games in my living room. I care about the content on the disc and I love playing games downloaded to my hard drive whether they're on my 360 or PC. If discs came in paper sleeves I'd be fine with it. I still remember dragging my Half-Life box and disc around for years, particularly through all of my college moves. What a pain that was. I haven't seen it since I put that key into Steam.
