Favorite Fallout! Which is yours, weird radiated ghoul?
New Vegas is the only correct answer. So much more quality than Fallout 3 (which I also loved).
Fallout 1 & 2 were probably great in their day, but I tried going back to play them and they haven't aged well.
My opinion may or may not be colored by the fact that my first playthrough of New Vegas had no crashes or freezes or bugs (plenty of that on later playthroughs unfortunately).
Except for the enjoying 3 part, I despised that game, that's pretty much my exact same experience.New Vegas is the only correct answer. So much more quality than Fallout 3 (which I also loved).

Fallout 2, hands down. I thought Fallout 3 was extremely mediocre but enjoyed New Vegas quite a bit.
2 just has the best all around writing and I love it for that. Though, I see why a lot of people can't get into the older ones anymore, I like to play em' through once every year or two out of love.
I've only played Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but right now I'm leaning towards Fallout 3, which is now one of my all-time favorite games. New Vegas may end up topping it, but I've only put about 10 hours into it so far.

Pick up Old World Blues if you haven't. Great DLC!

@Galiant: I'll end up getting it all at some point. Really, though, I've put over 250 hours into Fallout 3, and stil have never finished it once, nor have I tried any of the DLC (though I have it all). Still, I love it so much.
what the fuck, I seriously don't understand this. I have 151 hours in new vegas, but that's between 6 characters, and I've completed the game like 5 times.

I'm willing to bet there's a lot you haven't seen, then =)
Fallout 1 for me. At the time it was released, it was like no other game we'd seen before. That intro.. that world.. that gameplay.. it blew my mind back then, and none of the newer ones is going to have that effect on me again.
You should've put the original Wasteland on the poll too, just for kicks. That game was awesome.

You're no fun =(
Like Galiant said, there's a ridiculous amount of stuff to see in the game. Plus I just love it. I'm not rushing through it by any means. I'm the kind of person that likes to see and collect everything I can in a game. My whole is so full of stuff. I have so many perfect condition weapons that I've never even tried out yet. I started saving them, thinking I'd use them later on when things got harder, but uhh... I still haven't. Maybe I should do that now. For the record, that's 250 hours with 2 characters. Though I haven't beaten it with either. With my 2nd character, I've discovered almost every town now. I'm not playing with a guide or anything, and I think I'm probably like 85% complete with the story, but I'm not rushing to finish that.@TheGreatGuero said:

Fallout 3 is great, however NV has some improvements that makes it a more ''rounded'' experience. I love the hardcore mode, the iron sights and the actual usefulness of sleeping. Plus the idea of factions is great.
I might have screwed myself over anyways, as I am way further into New Vegas than I am in Fallout 3 (just started a new game), but on the other hand, they are two different games.
The only two I've played at 3 and NV, and I think it's one of those situations where whichever I played first would be my favorite. And I played 3 first. But, NV was pretty cool, and I think had better story stuff. Both are great!
Tactics is more like an SRPG than a CRPG. A lot of original Fallout fans despise this change in direction, but I quite liked it.I never tried the old ones, besides Tactics.
How's the difference, apart from the change in graphics?
Its hard to go back to the first one. The interface is really clunky and battles take forever and you can't scroll around the whole map to get to an objective quicker. I kind of feel like unless you played it within 4 years or so of it coming out, its really not worth going back. This is for Fallout 1, mind you.I never tried the old ones, besides Tactics.

I imagine he's right, as I have over 80 hours as one character and there is still loads I've not seen.

I'd go as far as to say it's not an RPG at all, but more of a TBS. I'd call Fallout 1/2 an SRPG though since it's more tactical than most of the Black Isle classics that fall under the CRPG umbrella. It's still a fun spin-off.
Have played all of them except for New Vegas, but I will soon.
I really like 3, but 2 is definitely the best one yet. All of the good stuff from the first one, but with more depth, width and polish.

Monty Python. That's all I'm going to say.
Theres Holy Hand grenades in New Vegas.
Where?! I have been searching near and far for that thing..
Basement of one of the churches in Camp Searchlight. You need wild Wasteland to get it.
For some reason, I could not get into Fallout 3. I've tried twice and I hated it. But New Vegas? I can't put it down.
