After a lengthy search, I couldn't find a similar thread. If there is one, would you kindly direct me to it?
That being said, I have a couple of contributions. Whilst playing console games, I sit on my pool table and therefore I keep more upright than I would on a couch. Being in such a position gives me a perfect opportunity to beat the shit out of my upper calf when failing sections of a game multiple consecutive times. This happened most recently when I had to redo the two-part boss battle with Liquid in MGS1 (first playthrough, btw). It's kind of ironic because not only does my calf hurt, but my hand goes numb, and thus hinders my future play and thus more deaths, more punching, etc.
The other example is when playing online shooters, primarily Wolfteam. I'm fairly good at the game, usually with a 2:1 K/D ratio or higher, but when I have a dying streak of 4-5 deaths in a row in a short amount of time, I get incredibly impatient and either slam the mouse down hard or slam the table with my fist... hard. I have multiple objects on said table so the clatter satisfies my bloodlust.
How do you deal with game-based anger?
It's funny, but I don't usually get angry at games. I get frustrated, but once I do, everything starts going wrong and I just walk away. Like if I can't solve a puzzle - I'll stop, and then I might come back a week later and I'll be able to get it first go.
Grit my teeth and swear a ton. If it continues I usually try to just do something else for a while. Get my mind on other things.
I don't get angry too often, mostly online FPSes when I get killed by cheap shit over and over (grenade launchers, RPGs, etc.) but I don't play too much online FPS. I also get angry at stupidly hard parts of games, and when a game feels cheap. I usually just say some variant of fuck or goddamnit (somehow I manage to not yell) or beat the arm of my chair or my leg if I get extremely pissed (happens once a month at most).
I don't get mad at games. If I get stuck, then I just leave/play something else and come back to it. Usually the break helps, and I can come back and beat the frustrating section.
I see no point in getting mad in MP games- if the game is broken, don't play it. If your team/their team is talking trash/is retarded, mute them, and then own their ass. If you're not doing well, it's either because you suck, in which case you keep playing to get better, or they're really good, in which case there's nothing you can do but keep playing and hoping to get to their level.
Back in my angry I hate the world and the world hates me youth, I was known to chuck a controller across the room, But learnt fairly quickly that Satisfaction Vs Cost of controller did not stack up in my favour,
I swear mostly, but if it is at night I just let it go, Don't want to wake my flatmates.
Also, NERD RAGE!!!11!!!
" I swear like a sailor and if it continues i rage quit. I just turn the console off and go and do something else. "This. I occasionally hit things as well. I used to be a consistent destroyer of controllers but that got expensive.
I'm better about not getting too pissed off these days. I have broken a few controllers before, and I punched a hole in the wall when I was 15.
Now I either just cuss, swear, make up a new word, or grab the strategy guide (if applicable) and sit on the toilet, take a dump and read it over, then re-attempt.
Started a coke habit ......
na i just swear really fast, and at the top of my voice, like it bursts out of me, to which my twin brother runs in.
"OMG you got pwned lolololol" ..... the twat
I don't know. If a game is pissing me off I will usually just stop playing. After doing this for a while, I've found that once I get back to the game I'll be a lot more level-headed and I'll usually be able to get past whatever it was that was causing me grief in the first place.
Fun fact: When we first got the NES, my mother would scream profanities and throw the controller at the television when she died in Super Mario Bros. Somehow, I didn't pick up that trait.
Initially I used to hit things until I made a hole in a flimsy wall and the next time almost broke my expensive laptop.
Now I just get up stretch out, cracking my back, really strain my muscles. If I feel especially frustraded I do pushups.
Oh and swearing sure, but that's a given.
I dont get angry while playing games... but...
When I play FIFA...
I could write a blog on this. I shout at the players as if they were real, slam my keyboard, swear a lot,
start sweating shout at the players more (like " bloody motherf*r i asked u to pass the ball LEFT not RIGHT you brainless piece of molyneux's ball"),
Grunt in frustration, restart match(and say "now what you gonna do smart ass?") stop playing, start playing again..... you get what im saying.
Basically the mechanics in that game are SO STUPID. This happens a lot- sometimes im nicely running with the ball, and MY OWN PLAYER comes from nowhere, they both hit each other, act dazed for like two to three seconds, while the ball rolls away to the opponent. Sometimes I take a shot at the goal, which again hits my own player at the ass or something, and gets deflected out. HOW SHITTY IS THIS GAME?
Anyways, other than this i never feel frustrated.. (except when I used to play street fighter zero with my sis as a kid and lose a lot :D)
A lot of times i take a break then when i come back i'll do whatever it is on like the first try. If its an online game like MW2 ill just take a couple day break then come back later. No reason to ruin a game I love.
I usually swear a lot. And then I get a beer to calm my nerves. Even just one helps take the edge off so I don't get too worked up over it.
If I find myself getting too frustrated, I'll just turn it off and walk away.
Swear....lots
If I get really pissed, I turn the console off and go do something else, in hopes that something will go off in my head and I'll be able to deal with whatever kept me stuck.
Rage quit. I'd say more than half the time i end my gaming session for the night it is within 5 seconds of me dieing.
" I swear like a sailor and if it continues i rage quit. I just turn the console off and go and do something else. "
Cursing, Nerd Rage, Rage quitting, and once or twice controller breaking. Unintentionally, of course.
When something happens, like when the goddamn NFL Blitz catch-up AI starts to beat the shit out of me, then I usually curse up a storm. If I get really mad, I'll punch something (sometimes myself), but I've gotten so mad that I've thrown my controller in disgust. That's why I had to buy a new Dualshock 3 recently.
Swear mostly, threw the controller when i was younger, but haven't done that tin a couple years. Mostly I just swear and ragequit to play something else.
A lot of use of "seriously?"...and "seriously?...go fuck yourself"
I do not throw or feel the need to throw stuff since my tiny pixel junk eden episode.
