I'm building a Halo 4 Wargames playlist on Spotify to listen to while I wreck fools. So I wants some suggestions for any good dubstep, electronica , trance etc...

I've already got some Skrillex , Nero and a bunch of the stuff that was on the Forza Horizon soundtrack. I want more jammin electronic tunes. I'll be honest though while I love the genre I'm not entirely versed in who is hot on that scene besides Skrillex and Nero. Thanks Ya!

This song garners a pretty good response at parties
#4 Edited by benpicko (1507 posts) - 6 months, 3 days ago

Burial, Africa Hitech, Eprom, Justice, Actress, Daft Punk, and other such things

SBTRKT and James Blake are good too

#5 Posted by NekuSakuraba (6812 posts) - 6 months, 3 days ago

All you need is Daft Punk.

But a few more are Deadmau5, Chemical Brothers, Swedish House Mafia, Knife Party, Justice, and The Prodigy.

Showtek, Headhunterz, hardstyle in general. I especially recommend 'Here We Fucking Go' and 'Colours of the Harder Styles'.

@the_OFFICIAL_jAPanese_teaBAG: Oohhh! I like. =D

Here's a handful of some of my favorites. Also, all these artists have quite a few good songs so don't just stop with these. Try looking through the UKF music channels on youtube to find even more music like this. I think probably about 50% of the stuff they post is meh, but you can definitely find some good music there.

Rage Valley - Knife Party

We Are Now Connected - Mord Fustang

Pink Lady - Feed Me

Keep em Bouncin - Pretty Lights

Goin In - Birdy Nam Nam (Skrillex Goin Hard Remix)

Vancouver Beatdown - Zomboy

Chaos Theory - ShockOne

Feed the Machine - Black Sun Empire & Noisa

Spitfire - Porter Robinson (Kill the Noise remix)

Tesla boy, Com truise, Dam Funk, Chromeo, Squarepusher, Luke Vibert, EPROM, slugabed, Breakbot, and Mux Mool.

Matrix soundtrack? Basically all I can add unless you would like some metal to go with your music. Tool maybe?

#13 Edited by Polaris (12 posts) - 6 months, 3 days ago

Lots of great suggestions already - I'll add to the Kinfe Party/Daft Punk/Deadmau5/Noisa love. Also, you mentioned the Forza Horizon soundtrack - I liked it quite a bit too, so I made a continuous mix of all the Bass Arena tracks (excluding the dubstep ones, still not confident with transitioning in/out gracefully) just for fun.

#14 Posted by TehPickle (191 posts) - 6 months, 3 days ago

If you want something crazy, I would say Aphex Twin (over and over again).

But then with an Avatar like mine, I would....

#15 Posted by mlarrabee (1759 posts) - 6 months, 3 days ago

@TehPickle: You took the words from my mouth...

And while you're at it throw on some Morphadron, and don't forget the Daft Punk:

The Prodigy is disquietingly crazy, but some of their stuff is required:

And you may just have to sort through YouTube manually to find notable beats:

And I'll end this entirely too long post with:

I say some Skream

or Coki

and if you're feeling really experimental then this is pretty good

All these songs are better with subs just to let you know.

Is this close enough?

I'm gonna be "that guy" and post some Swedish House. Honestly if you just listen to the first song in this mix you'll be hooked, there's plenty of other great shit in there too and it'll introduce you to a lot of well known producers:

#25 Posted by GeekDown (1073 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago

If you want electronic then Rustie's album Glass Swords is amazing. If you have to listen to dubstep, Dillon Francis is pretty solid and lightyears better than Skrillex and Nero.

#26 Posted by Demoskinos (9008 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago

@psylah: That is glorious.

Did I mention Death Grips?

#29 Posted by djou (406 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago

I would take a cue from one of the GB Quicklooks and play the Hotline Miami soundtrack over the music for any shooter. Its the type of music that makes you want to massacre.

I was gonna link some dubstep as you said you wanted some in the OP, then I saw you say you liked Skrillex and Nero so I doubt I should bother. NOT ENOUGH DROPS HERP DERP.

E: Also someone already linked some Coki.

#31 Posted by Subject2Change (2869 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago

Lost me at good dubstep and had skrillex on the list.

No! Don't despair! Go and bring in the Man Parrish and the early-era Aphex Twin! Save this place!

#33 Posted by BackupPanic (90 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago

I'm gonna throw Amon Tobin out there, particularly the soundtrack he composed and produced for Tom Cancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, (both the original and remixed version that accompanied Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D,) along with his 2007 album, The Foley Room. Granted, he's not as eclectic as some of the others you've been suggested, but I'll freely admit a bias towards more traditional and electromechanical sounds on my behalf.

As an aside, Tom Waits always seems to go well with whatever I happen to be playing at the moment. . . . 'Tis just a suggestion, if you have want of something other than electronica and it's kith on that playlist of yours.

#34 Posted by leafhouse (100 posts) - 6 months, 2 days ago

You should by no means ever listen to Skrillex or Deadmau5. Listen to and put on some Autechre.

Just went through all of those because I love Tesla Boy. So nearly, nearly liked Com Truise and Chromeo but the songs were too repetetive for me. Squarepusher was pretty awesome but I still can't decide if I like it. I think I like Slugabed?

Well, if you like tesla boy, I'll do this.

If you like Tesla boy, check out:

  • Breakbot
  • Electric Youth
  • Anoraak
  • betamaxx
  • Dam funk
  • M.O.O.N.
  • FM attack
  • Mitch Murder
  • College
  • Surkin
  • Sebastien Tellier
  • Kavinsky
  • Cut Copy

If you like Squarepusher (Good starting point is his newest album "Ufabulum")

  • Boards of canada
  • Luke Vibert
  • Aphex twin
  • Daedelus
  • mux mool
  • Dorien concept.

As for me though, I really like repetitive music, I listen to Juke and bass music too, which is the epitome of repetitive right now, so if that list doesn't help, that's probably why.

And ALSO, if you don't like repetition or off beats, you'll HATE slugabed. Just a warning, but check it out still if you want, it's not hard electronica or anything, just really different.

Thanks a lot dude. I like off beats, will have to see the repetitiveness of it but that Quantum Leap song is fantastic. I'll check out some more of those in a bit (especially the Tesla Boy ones), and I definitely think I will grab Ufabulum.

Awesome, it's always good to spread around good, small artists. Some of those are pretty big, like Cut copy and squarepusher, but a lot only have like 1000 followers on Soundcloud, it's a shame.

That'll keep you busy for a while.

Edit: man, Ninjatune needs to clean up their youtube. While they do, check out Two Fingers, Amon Tobin's "Hip Hop" ensemble. It's not really hip hop and has some of the most aggressive cuts I've ever heard.

I used to be into electro and what's called dubstep these days but then a friend introduced me to breakcore (and the subgenre lolicore). It's still nice to listen to but not the stuff I really browse for. Xanopticon, Dev/Null, sHimaU, Bong-Ra, Venetian Snares, Nero's Day At Disneyland and Goreshit are all good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orzkAUY9Te0

John Talabot, Rustie and Nicolas Jaar are my favourites from there.
