...uh yeah you can. Basic Training, SERE training, or other controlled training works. I went into basic with some of the stupidest mother fuckers and they came out a lot better.

Right, but that is still a carrot and a stick situation, You have a carrot, Graduation, Becoming a full fledged Marine, or whatever. And a stick.

With this all you have is the stick. Besides, most people dont take well to shame.

How many people got them selves kicked out of basic because they couldn't take it?

Fat people know they're fat. They know it's unhealthy to be fat. If they're happy the way they are, you're being a judgmental asshole. If they're already ashamed, you're just a bully.

My Flight didn't have any but we had two get recycled...I know for a fact that one of them graduated a week after us but no idea about the other. It's not carrot and a stick, it's motivational training. You know they can't do much to you and you want to do good. Shame is a good way to motivate.

Let it be clear that I don't care if someone is obese, it's only when they complain about it do I feel the need to tear into their dumb asses. If you're 500 pounds and the happiest person in the world then good on you, man.

Peoples brains are wired differently, whats easy for some is not for others. The mechanics maybe easy, eat less, but the psychology is not. While some people have an addiction to smoking, porn, or playing video games. Some people have an addiction to eating. The problem with having an addiction to eating is that you cant not eat. Unlike drinking, or smoking or many other addictions, you cant cut your self off completely from eating.

Thats why its hard.

No that's not hard at all, it's not even complicated. You're actually arguing that people can't stop smoking or drinking because you need to suck something in your lungs and drink some sort of liquid. The other side is pointing out that it's all about what you breathe and drink, and also eat in this case.

So are you seriously arguing that it's harder to stop drinking Coke than it is to stop drinking booze? Or actually smoking coke(crack)? Because one is unnecessary while the other one is mandatory?

It is not hard for you. Choices are one aspect. But its also the amount people eat, some people can stop at 3 cookies, while some people will have 6 or 7 before they even know it. Its all about how the brain works. You have to rewire the brain. You cant shame it into working.

And most people don't even eat those cookies, that's the point. Fat people think that everyone that is thin(ner) drinks soda and eat cookies/chips/burgers every day because every day they see someone eating and drinking something like that. So they see it as normal behavior.

Regarding losing weight, activity isn't even needed, a super-fat person burns plenty of calories just by being alive and the only reason they're not losing weight is because they never have a calorie deficit.

It's good to know that Giant Bomb is apparently full of people who think they are above someone else based solely on the difference in their weight. Congratulations on being skinny -- it doesn't make you a better person. Judging others based on nothing but appearance and thinking yourself their better proves that quite well. As if one's ability to remain in peak physical condition is the only worthwhile virtue known to mankind and should be held above all others. I also love the part where everyone is talking about the overweight as if it is an all or nothing thing. Believe it or not, you can be overweight and not be morbidly obese with all kinds of health problems. So if your sole excuse for being a bigoted asshole to overweight people is that they're "a tax on our resources" then you may want to start thinking of a different fallback argument.

:

The people who have so little of it they can't even control their own lives barely deserve to even live.

Those of us with anxiety disorders and other such life-affecting behavioral disorders are ready to be lined up against the wall and shot at your convenience -- whenever's good for you, really.

Fine by me, make more excuses. You act like I haven't had to deal with shit in my life before. I have REAL WORLD problems that I have to deal with guy, like making sure I can afford to live. If everyone was a drone making excuses like you then the world would regress from the conformity. If shit ever hit the fan where would you be? I would be sacrificing myself to protect others and those who are important to me, while you what, huddle in a corner whining and blaming everything else for your problems?

Where did you get all that from? I didn't say a damn thing about what your life is or is not like. I work to pay my rent and my bills just like you -- in spite of the shit I have to deal with, just like you. Everyone has problems -- you, me, everyone else in the world, and I honestly don't appreciate you insinuating that I would let the people I care about suffer because you somehow managed to interpret what I said as making excuses and being a lazy fuck who cries in the corner and blames the world for all my hardships.

I brought up anxiety disorders not in relation to the discussion on obesity, but in specific response to your assertion that the only reason someone could have trouble dealing with certain aspects of their lives is due to utter laziness. Anxiety and other behavioral disorders are real things, and they make dealing with certain situations abnormally stressful for the people who suffer from them. It has nothing to do with willpower, because it isn't laziness or weakness of character that is the source of the anxiety.

When I have to call up a prospective employer to check up on an application (for example), it can take me damn near an hour to work up the will to do so. It isn't because I'm weak-willed; there are other things in life that I have no problem with that should be more stressful than a phone call. It's because I have a fucking phobia, and certain things fill me with dread even when I'm fully aware that they shouldn't. It takes an immense amount of will to power through something like that, and it's exceptionally draining, and no matter how many times I deal with these things head on, it doesn't get any easier. Hence why I take issue with the assumption that anyone who seems to have less control over aspects of their life is automatically a lazy fuck who deserves to die.

Shit. I'm not fat by accident.

This is America, and I live in Texas. We have good eatin'. I'm free to eat whatever I want. People are free to make fun of me. I am free to knock a muthafucker out if they wanna do that.

In all seriousness, I don't understand why people need to make fun of someone because of their weight. If they are a working member of society and take care of their shit, then who the fuck cares?

That's what I'm saying. I don't understand how people can flat out blame overweight people for being lazy. Over half the population is overweight now and clearly it's a medical condition that's been going on. Maybe it's because America is the wealthiest nation and we can afford to do it, but then I look at countries who are near our wealth like the UK and Canada and it's not a problem there. Hell, Canada is just on top of USA and they don't have this issue.

It's like this:

When I was in school (which was during the Bush Administration), I remember Arnold Schwarzenegger being the spokesman for the national fitness program shit or whatever. Physical education was something that was actually TAUGHT in schools. Nowadays, that same school I went to has NO physical education classes because pansy parents started saying "well, my kid feels embarrassed" and "my kid doesn't like doing it, it hurts and he sweats, then has to shower and go to class".

Fuck that. Those are weak excuses, and those parents are fuckheads.

Meanwhile, as we've moved along in the 21st century, the United States itself has turned into a country of high fructose corn syrup, chemically engineered bullshit, a fast food restaurant on every corner because we work ourselves to the bone for more and more profit, and junk food wherever we go.

The problem is that the healthy food education and the physical education are not there in the schools. THAT is where the biggest problem is coming from. But...ya know...we live in a free nation. Therefore, we have to be free to destroy ourselves if we want...because logic.

I don't know. I haven't changed my eating habits or the amount of physical anything I do since high school. I just work at a job where I sit most of the day. I make sure to get up for about ten to fifteen minutes every hour just to keep good blood circulation. It probably doesn't help that I sit in front of a ton of sweets and chips and other terrible shit, but what the fuck ever. I don't care to live past 50, and I smoke...so I'm already on that road anyways. Might as well enjoy it with some sweet chocolate.

If I wanted to be not fat, I could do it. I just don't really give that much of a fuck. Literally, nothing has changed since I gained weight other than my weight. My life is still the same as it was before. = /

So that's what I think about the overweight "epidemic" - it's the fault of the ignorant ass muthafuckers that live in this country being self-entitled cockstains.

As for fat shaming, it's stupid. Let people fuck their lives up. If they don't have health insurance, then don't treat them. Fuck 'em and feed 'em fish guts. Being overweight doesn't mean you can't get a fucking job and pay for insurance. If you are LAZY, that's where the problem comes in. You should be shamed for being lazy...not fat.

Oh wow. I... How did this reach 22 pages and not fly under my radar?

We really don't need these sorts of accusing and troll threads here on Giant Bomb. Because of that, I am going to lock this thread down.
