If he didn't change the story up, then we would be seeing the exact same movie we saw 19 years ago.

If you're talking about Jack Nicholson/Joker killing Batman's parents, that absolutely had nothing to do with the comics.  The killer of Batman's parents was a dude named (believe it or not) Joe Chill.

You can read a bio on him here.

That was made up for Tim Burton's movie, I do believe.  Many Batman comics make their own versions, though.

Joker killing Bruce's parents was a creation of the Tim Burton movie. Nothing wrong with that, but not the original story.

Like a few people said, the Joker never killed Wayne's parents in the comic books.  That was a weird twist, but a cool one at that.  Joe Chill killed his parents, and in Batman Begins, you see him.  He shoots both of his parents and then dies when at a trial.

I hope so. Batman's always been terribly written besides maybe when Frank Miller got his hands on it, and then it was too late.

this thread is a fail.

come on dude. DC comics themselves rewrite their stories all the time. im sure comic book fanboys will agree that nolan has done a good job with adapting the comics. making them new and unique while remaining faithful to the source material all at once

I think it was just a random person.  I know Bruce didn't get a chance to shoot him.  I forget who shot him specifically, though.

It's nothing compared to how different the Spider-Man movies have changed the story of Spider-Man.

Actually Nolan isn't changing anything, if you saw Batman Begins you can see how Bruce's parents died and everything

On a somewhat off-topic note, Tim Burton will always be the best director for the Batman movies.

The Comics aren't even consistent on the story, there are multiple versions of every character's back story, although the most popular version of how bruce's parents died is the one from batman begins.

I was surprised they didn't go into the back story of the joker more, well, they alluded to subscribing to the version where the joker is so messed up that even he doesn't remember how he ended up the way he is.

He's staying as close to the mythos of Batman as possible.

I always thought Tim Burton was a bit overrated (granted Sweeny Todd was awesome, but he hasn't made any other movies that I enjoyed). Christopher Nolan is definatly the better director for the Batman series. He's staying close to the tone, atmosphere, and story of the actual comics. It's much deeper and realistic, while Tim Burton's version was more campy and cartoon-like.

Burton was good at the time. Nolan is a much better director for the Batman films.

"While i was bouncing my rhymes
All up in this dime
My girl would bitch at me
From time to time.

I looked in her eye
With her about to cry
The way she looked at me
Made me want to die.

I went over the hill
It seemed i zoned in for the kill
When i told my girl
'JOE CHILL!!!'"
