Me and a friend invented a season in which you only listen to ska for two whole months. It takes place between the awkward time between winter and spring (roughly Febuary through April.
Anyone know of any good ska songs in which i can fill my mp3 player with?
It's ska season!
Sonic Boom Six; Big D & The Kid's Table; Capdown; Streetlight Manifesto; Catch 22; [Spunge]; Pepper; Farse; Random Hand; The Skints; Mighty Mighty Bosstones; Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra; Madness; The Specials; Desmond Dekker & The Aces and Mustard Plug should be enough bands to keep you going.
Don't forget there's more to ska than just ska.
I approve of this topic. Probably my two favourite ska albums:
Streetlight Manifesto - Everything Goes Numb
RX Bandits - Progress
I agree with Area 7. Also, check out the Resignators.
believe me, i love ska as much as the next guy
but for 2 months straight?
oh man...that's a LOT of ska...
I don't know if it counts but i've been listening to a local (swedish) band recently, supposed to be a mix of ska and reggae.
Oh man, I am HUGE on ska.
If you want some retro stuff, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, Bob Marley and the Wailers.
For Two-Tone, it's all about The Specials and Madness. The Slackers. The Toasters.
Modern days is: The Aquabats, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch-22, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, Gimp, Reel Big Fish, Five Iron Frenzy, older No Doubt, a lot of Sublime, Authority Zero, Save Ferris, Bad Manners.
Mustard Plug, the Voodoo Glowskulls.
If you need any more suggestions, I'll be happy to give more.
Edit: Also, this is my current Ska playlist, that you are more than welcome to check out. It's all streamable, so you should have some fun. I usually hit shuffle and let chance take me where ever it may!

" I couldn't do that. I don't have a single ska song on my Ipod unless you count some of the more Reggae oriented tracks of London Calling as "Pre-Ska". "The music master of GB doesn't have Ska?! PREPOSTEROUS!
If you like the Bosstones, check out their album "Live From the Middle East", it's amazing.
I also recommend the Spitvalves, Reel Big Fish pre-"We're Not Happy Until Your Not Happy", Authority Zero is great ska-punk, old Mustard Plug is fucking great, Streetlight Manifesto is a great darker ska band, The Toasters are straight old school ska, and The Undercovers are pretty good if you can find their album.
Alright, here are some of my suggestions. Several have probably already been mentioned:
- The Aggrolites (slightly more reggae, but still good)
- Aquabats
- Bedouin Soundclash (again, a bit more reggae but they are great)
- Big D and the Kids Table (Fluent in Stroll, their newest, is really great)
- Big Mountain
- Buck-O-Nine (Sustain, "Pass the Dutchie," "My Town")
- Chase Long Beach
- Choking Victim
- Fandangle
- Fishbone
- The Forces of Evil (basically Reel Big Fish)
- Goldfinger
- Hepcat (slower, groovier)
- Johnny Socko (Full Trucker Effect)
- Mad Caddies
- The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (their newest album is actually pretty good)
- Mustard Plug
- The OC Supertones
- Operation Ivy
- The Planet Smashers (Unstoppable is their best)
- Reel Big Fish
- Ska P (in Spanish, "El Gato Lopez" is a GREAT song)
- The Slackers
- Slapstick
- The Specials
- Steel Pulse (reggae, but it's good)
- Streetlight Manifesto
- The Suicide Machines
- The Toasters
- Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (Their stuff is impossible to obtain legally, download it all online. REALLY good stuff)
- Westbound Train (slow and groovy)
Also, if somebody is too stupid to listen to the most fun, upbeat genre of music of all time, it's their loss.
the first song that came to mind was this one, but it's a cover" @onimonkii: No Doubt was once really a Ska band, before they switched to a more pop-y sound, which helped them push albums. I mean, listen to Excuse Me Mr., or Spiderwebs, if those aren't Ska songs, I'll be damned. "
There's a foreign Ska band that is so damn good, they may be Brazilian or something like that.
They're called something like Skacha Bouches or something, but since I don't know the correct spelling, I can't find them. Any suggestions?
@onimonkii: I forgot about that one, totally Skatastic.
=D All I listen to is ska, 2 months is nothing.
Mmmshalsh has the right idea though.
I'll post a good song by each band, just so you can get a taste.
Catch 22 - Came into their own during the "washed up and through the ringer" album. They also done the original recording of Keasby Nights, which is an incredible album, but then Streetlight re-recorded it, as the lead singer changed bands. The Catch 22 version isn't as clean and as a result sounds alot better.
Streetlight Manifesto - All their albums are awesome (I also hi fived Tom XD)
Bandits of the acoustic revolution - Have only released an EP which is pretty good, a few songs coming from their new album got leaked, the album is said to be out in March.
One cool guy - Released one album some stuff is really hard to get hold off.
Mad Caddies - Pretty decent ska band, their vocals and lyrics are normally their best part.
Big D and the kids table - They're a bit of a singles band, only a good few songs. Also made an awesome cover of a song called "Little Bitch" (Linked it because it's awesome) originally by The Specials.
Fandangle - You might have to kill to find their stuff, but my God, incredible band, they split up though =(. Anyone who wants to give them a listen send a PM my way.
Less than Jake - If you don't like the song I've linked, go die. Awesome band, they drift from being a ska band to being kinda pop punk though. Also a new album out later this year.
Madness - Obvious choice
The Specials - I only really like "Little bitch" and "Rudy".
Rancid - Only a few good songs, but "Time bomb" is awesome.
Goldfinger - Decent enough ska/punk band
[spunge] - Awesome English ska band
Reel Big Fish - You probably already know them.
*Disclaimer* Some links might go to the same thing when you read it, I am going to check but I have to post it to do so, so if a link goes to the wrong song forgive me.
How could I forget Less Than Jake - Losing Streak. Great album ;D
Also something else that hasn't been mentioned is The Flaming Tsunamis if you're looking for something a bit heavier.
I'm pretty sure I could do this listening to Reel Big Fish alone. Man, do I love Reel Big fish.
If you want a suggestion that I'm pretty sure no one else has mentioned maybe try Oreskaband?
It's not Ska season. It never will be.
It's Rap season. Every season is rap season.
Just kidding. NoFX, Choking Victim, Reel Big Fish are the only ones i like.
The Aquabats, Streetlight Manifesto, Mustard Plug, and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches are some of my favorites.
Though The Arrogant Sons of Bitches are more punk than ska most of the time, and they can be pretty noisy sometimes, just depends what songs you listen to. Still love em.
What a coincidence, I discovered The Mighty Mighty Bosstones in High school." Gunner...do you know how much I LOVE "The Rascal King"? That was my fucking THEME SONG in high school!!! You win major kudos. One of the best horn sections in ska and skacore, man! "
Quick, what shirt are you wearing!?!?
