Last night I had my first hamburger. Not my first one at a certain resturaunt (well I guess technically that's true), but I'm talking about the first hamburger I've ever consumed, in my 21 years on this planet. And let me tell you, I've been missing out.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat a lot of meat. Never have. I'll usually take chicken if I have to, but last night me and a few friends went to In-'N-Out.

 The scene of the crime.
 The scene of the crime.

If you're not familiar with In-N-Out, it is higher quality fast food. The thing is the menu options are very limited. Whenever I would go to somewhere like a Burger King, I would go for the chicken option because for some reason eating a burger never appealed to me. Maybe my hippie parents used subliminal messaging to get me to not want to eat meat. Well last night when we got to In-N-Out, I was starving. I had to do it. I had to break free and let the heavenly light of hamburgers into my cold, dark, beefless world, so I did it. I ordered a double double (two meat patties with two cheese slices) with only pickles, ketchup.

 Spoiler alert: I liked it.
 Spoiler alert: I liked it.

My first bite yielded mixed results, but by the time I was halfway through my burger I knew. I knew a door had opened up for me and I could never go back. I imagined this is what a heroin addict feels like the first time they shoot up. My life changed that fateful day. I can now call myself a true American.

Burgers are excellent. You have been missing out on a lot by not eating them. I ate one literally just before posting here, with plain ol' cheese and beef. You have seen the light, and this can only be a good thing.

Crazy to hear that it was your first hamburger. It is crazy to think of missing a particular staple in the American diet. All the times it was served during school lunches or outdoor parties. CRAZINESS!

Glad you enjoyed it.

Oh, and making hamburgers tonight. Yum.

I guess my next logical step would to be have a fancier burger. I won't stop 'till I've had the best.

Man, so hungry right now. I recently discovered the  joys of having everything on my burgers, things which I used to hate. Onions are the biggest change for me, I used to hate them, now I can't imagine a burger without them. :D

I think Burgers have been misappropriated as evil, but it's all about quality and moderation. Don't spoil your burger quota with crappy MacDos, and you'll be fine.

I guess it's true that I've never had a plain ol' steak. Don't get me wrong I've had steak inside of a burrito, and stuff like that. But I've never had one fork and knife style. Or bare hand style if you're into that sorta thing.

Double doubles are my favorite burger, bar none. I order em 'protein style' (wrapped in lettuce). In-N-Out actually has quite a few menu options if you know the lingo.

If nutrition is not a factor, the pineapple burgers at Carl's Jr. are probably the next best burger I've ever had.

Not sure what other cities have, but there are two burger joints here (probably more) in the Twin Cities that sell a burger called the "Jucy Lucy." A hamburger where they actually place a piece of cheese inside of the meat itself, cook it and then serve in on the hamburger bun. Makes for one crazy juicy burger.

That's really odd you never had a beef burger before. Usually I add bacon to the beef burger, always add bacon. Delicious. Now i'm hungry.

He didn't say that it wasn't, he just said he's not a big meat eater and would usually eat chicken when given the opportunity to eat meat.

Exactly, whenever there wasn't a veggie option, I would always opt for chicken. I've yet to have a porkchop, either... adding that to my bucket list of meat.

I remember eating my first hamburger.
I had already seen them in cartoons but never tasted one. When I slammed my fangs into my first burger I felt like entering another dimension.

And now I´m hungry.

I'm not saying it's in the wrong place, just saying they'd (the hamburger forum people) appreciate a story like this.

Meh. Burgers are alright, I guess. They usually ruin them by putting green shit in and bacon. Bleh.

I can recall my earliest memory of eating a burger OUT.We would pull through the McD's drive-thru and order a couple of hamburgers as-is for 16 CENTS each. "Get Back" by The Beatles was newly playing on the AM radio.I wish i was joking, - but - Father Time.....!

Ok, now I see what you mean. I guess I just didn't picture chickens as animals, I don't claim to know why I was like this. I only know that it was a dark time in my life. Very dark.

@GlenTennis: Correction good sir, as 21 years of life without hamburgers is no life at all. You are now less then a year old as you have only now began to live life. For only after you have let the joy of hamburgers into your life can one truly live. Now go forth my son. You have a lot of learning to do.

It's hard NOT to like the things.
