EDIT: PS3RG posted a similar thread, but i'm not sure if it's about the exact same thing. if it is, go ahead and lock this :P

The discovery of 2 planets... cool.

 What do you guys think?

The link says:

NASA has announced the discovery of two planets, slightly smaller than Saturn, orbiting the same star in the Milky Way, which have been discovered by the Kepler Space Telescope.

William Borucki, the Kepler Mission Science Principal Investigator, at the NASA Ames Research Center, announced on a teleconference "the first discovery of multiple planets orbiting the same star."

The two planets, known as Kepler 9B and 9C, have a clear gravitational interaction, according to NASA.

A third celestial body, has also been discovered. It's about 1.5 times the size of Earth, but it has not yet, been confirmed as a planet.

"The discovery incorporates seven months of observations of more than 156,000 stars as part of an ongoing search for Earth-sized planets outside our solar system," NASA said in a press release.

cool. in the future we are going to be able to get out of the milkyway and go to other planets outside of it. it will be pretty cool for that to happen.

Third celestial body not confirmed as a planet, huh? Some kind of space station perhaps...

That's cool about the Saturn planets.

Actually they said the discovery of these planets were just part of the project. Regardless I think this is pretty cool news.

@JusticeReturns: Or maybe it's like Osama joined forces with Sovereign, and becomes Saren, but he only hates Americans.

Definitely cool, but not really huge news.  There have been nearly 500 exoplanets discovered since 1992, which averages to about 27 a year.  Although that average is misleading, since the pace of detection has been speeding up since then.

I remember when I was in like, what, in grade 4 back when it was 2002, there wasn't a whole lot of things that we didn't discover outside of our solar system. There probably weren't any discovered worlds outside of the solar system at the time. Its really cool that we're starting to make all these rapid yet gradual advancements that allow us to discover worlds. Though the worlds we discover are often gas giants or large planets which dwarfs our Earth, making it unsuitable for human life, its still progress.

Also astronomers described that finding a planet of our size is like as likely as finding a pin in outerspace. You need to be damn accurate with what they're using to even find a planet our size.

Nasa is like a voyeur. Only likes to watch, but making the effort to really do anything besides that, is more than they can handle.
