Oh god, he was totally in that! I also watched that a few weeks ago and somehow didn't realize that was him! Because I'm an idiot, I guess.

Yeah, sad news, I don't think he'd been well for a while. Great actor and now I just have to watch The Long Good Friday, Mona Lisa, Roger Rabbit and Made in Dagenham.

Roger Rabbit probably the second best animated movie of all time next to Beauty and the Beast, sadness.

Hoskins was really great. I love him in Long Good Friday, Roger Rabbit and Felicia's Journey.

Which Bombcast had the crew arguing about whether or not he was already dead? I think it was something like a year ago.

@oraknabo: It was last May, early-ish. Thats what I thought of when I read this title.

God 2013-2014 has sucked with people dying, now Bob Hoskins...rest in peace man.

Great actor; a guy that makes you respect him being in the Mario Brothers even though A) the movie blew and B) he supposedly totally hated doing it. It's a shame to hear that he passed away, but at least he left behind a pretty fulfilled career.

I still love the Mario Bros movie and he was the perfect live action Mario. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was another of my all time favorites. He also played Smee in Hook, a childhood staple.

Watch him in Brazil:

At least Mario escaped the Year of Luigi however briefly.

Always sad when someone dies, 71 seems a little early anymore, although I guess it really isn't. :(

I just watched the Super Mario Bros movie on saturday for the first time. While it is an insane, trippy piece of work, Hoskins does alright for himself in it, not to mention his performance in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. RIP

Here's the chunk of Bombcast in which Ryan Davis says "Bob Hoskins is dead." Man. I think that's all there is to be said about this.

The Mario Bros. movie was completely fine. I actually enjoyed it more than I did several other movies I had to watch in the TANG/WUTANG ER.

I'm going to go watch Roger Rabbit.

Hoskins always considered Super Mario Bros. the worst thing he had ever been a part of. I can't really disagree with that, but he was by no means or in any way at fault for its awfulness. A bright, shining star in a sea of darkness.

The movie itself kind of sucked, but Bob Hoskins was great in it. Gonna watch The Long Good Friday. RIP Bob Hoskins. Also, his final role was in the Snow White and the Huntsman... with Kristen Stewart... Fuck this world.

Man, I still quote him from the beginning of that scene all the time. Betty's "Cigars? Cigarettes? Eddit Valiant!" is just classic to me, and Bob's gruff voice just saying "Yeah. You still got it..." is classic as well.

Interview with Bob Haskins in 2011 with the Guardian.

What is the worst job you've done?

Super Mario Brothers.

What has been your biggest disappointment?

Super Mario Brothers.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?

I wouldn't do Super Mario Brothers.

I still laugh at the fact Big Bertha was a heavy set black woman in red and wait for it, Mario had to seduce her by daggering with her. Well it probably wasn't daggering but for at least two strokes it was probably something close to it. Then ending the entire scene with "Walk the Dinosaur" was priceless.

That soundtrack was also pretty terrible. It was like a royalty free collection of Marky Mark's Funky Bunch playing on loop.
