Do you want to look like me?
So I joined a Gym...No really.
Test Results!
So basically she measured my height and weight, she then laid me on the floor and put a plaster on my right hand and another on my right foot. She hooked them up to a electronically device, pressed a button and it was done. She then went through all this fitness mumbo jumbo, she then gave me a high five telling me I was in the middle of the ranges for everything. To put it simply I'm in the middle of the scales, it tips neither way but stays straight, so they were fantastic results. She then booked me in for next Monday to have my first induction with the Gym equipment, very excited.
I like the staff there, everybody I have spoken to is really nice, typical sassy 40 ish year old women behind the counter and friendly 25-30 year old trainers. Seen no en so far, which is a shame but hey I'd probably concentrate better with a female.
Spinning is supposedly pretty hard. My friend runs the classes and her body got so hot from doing it! I would do it too, but I'm lazy. Although, I'm totally starting to work out from tomorrow morning! Honest.
Anyway, are you on that fitocracy thing or something? I'm not too sure what it was called. I need to find it again!
Oh and if your parents are good for money and you find you have a bunch you could find a charity you'd like to donate to and set up a direct debit to it maybe?
Was going to the gym daily, until my friends simply stopped going. They were my means of transportation, so not much I can do there.
Anyway, I have taken to walking six miles a day, as well as sets of push-ups and sit-ups throughout the day. Managed to lose twenty pounds in under two months doing this. That is with a decent diet, mind you.
Anyway, I don't see the need of a gym. Most people, as long as they are only concerned about losing weight, are better of just walking/running outside. No point in paying just to use the treadmill. If you are looking to lift, however, then the cost of a gym per month is pretty reasonable. I was going to Planet Fitness, and all they asked was for ten a month, along with a sign-up fee, of course. Definitely miss access to their weights. :/
It sounds like a bit of a rip to me. Why pay money to exercise? To guilt you into doing it?
Crunches, push-ups and situps are all free since you can use the ground. Ther ground is also useful for cardio (you can run on it). If you wanna really save money, use abandoned cinderblocks as weights.
An exercise bike costs as much as a year or two at a gym and you can use it whenever you want. Exercising at ungodly hours is awesome and is the only reason I'll ever get on that thing.
Don't allow yourself to get frustrated. I think that is the most important thing to remember. And your outward appearance is hardly an indication of your physical health. If you feel like classes will help you stay motivated, then they're fine. Otherwise I'd add to the chorus that you'd be better off jogging two to three times a week for cardio and using the gym for strength training. Not necessarily to bulk up, you can always go high reps for definition.

The most terrifying part of this is the realisation that people actually pay attention to the shit I write on twitter.
You post the most drunken regret tweets then anyone else I follow. And I dont even remember how the hell I started following you. I hope you are more terrified now.

Quite a few people have been saying I'm better off working at home, people seem to be ignoring the fact that I said I wanted to socialise more and I have a lack of self motivation.
Yep. Just do whatever works for you. I'd still suggest trying to alternate cardio class days with weight training days in the gym. Plus, the more you're there, the more familiar you become and the more likely you might be able to strike up a general gym conversation.
@MikkaQ: If I pay money to join a gym then I'm obligated to go there. While crunches and press-ups are probably fine, I lack the motivation to do them. Also, my Gym has sky on all their exercise machines, which is awesome because I don't have a TV licence at home :D
Joining the gym is something I have wanted to do for a while, and I don't regret my decision at all. The first couple of weeks will be pretty rough, but I already feel better having done some exercise after only 2 days.
