So I'm going to my first midnight launch (Gamestop)...

Kinda scared and anxious. Going with my friend to get God of War III (and try to buy FFXIII on the side). 
  
Is there anything to be aware of? Do people go insane and mug others outside of the store after purchase? 

Yeah, once 12:00am hits "gamers" become feral beasts who wouldn't think twice about killing you for a copy of God of War III. Honestly, do you want to risk getting killed by a feral "gamer"? I thought not. Just use Amazon.

Don't scare the man. Honestly the most it will ever be is slightly uncomfortable due to the amount of douchery that a midnight launch attracts. Just keep to yourself, stay in line, get your game and get the fuck out...you'll be fine  Also you could try skipping deodorant so people will stay away from you "

In all honesty, you just walk in and present your receipt and/or pay for your game prior to midnight.  Once the hour hits, you simply move through a line and are handed your copy of the game.  The only thing to worry about is the wait time dependent upon your own location.  Where I'm from it takes maybe 5 minutes, but I've heard of some crazy-long lines for releases at GameStop.  As big of a name as God of War is, it's not say...Halo huge, so it shouldn't be that bad.

No there actually really boring but I live in a small town so the lines are not too long.

Unless you live in a very bad neighbourhood the midnight launch of a video game won't turn into a massive riot.

I went to the midnight release of Halo 2 and it wasnt a problem, was kinda fun talking to the other people in line about the game,

What you do is get there early so your one of the first people in line, They won't let everyone in at once....
So when you get yours, You and your friend go get in the car, You press your copy up against the window along with your asscheeks as your friend cruises by the line outside the store.    
For greater impact you can write something witty on your buttcheeks for them to read as you go by

When I went to the GTA IV midnight launch some guy got stabbed to death for his copy (He got the last copy on PS3).  This was in a all white, upper class, suburban neighborhood.  I usually like to take a switch blade, taser, and a sock full of batteries.

Yeah be careful.  I have only gone to one because when I did, this big naked man ran over from around the corner of the store and proceeded to grab me and drag me into an alley and rip off my pants and turned me over.  He then... he then proceeded to use his incredible manhood to annihilate my once pure anus.  I still have not gotten over it.  I think it was this guy.
