Maaaaaaaan what a gut punch.
Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has died
You said it. What a gut punch. Fuuuuuuuuuck. With all due respect to the other legends we've lost recently, this has hit me the hardest. Soundgarden was my band throughout junior high and high school years. I really connected with that music. This sucks. He was so young still.
Another teenage hero gone. A sad day.
Yep, I remember watching Soundgarden on MTV in the 90's all the time also there music was in a RoadRash game on PSX amazing singer good fucking times. RIP
Since we're in a gaming site's forums, I think this video, at a sad time like this, just needs to be posted. RIP Chris.
Man I just found my Soundgarden cd's the other day in my parents attic...fuck dude...
Never listened to much Audioslave except for what played on the radio but that's what I'm gonna spend my day doing.
Rock music's greatest voice ever. I'm struggling to process this. In what I consider the most authentic era of music with Soundgarden, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains, we lost Layne and Kurt so early. Cornell was the one who made it out, and he'd go on to form what is still my favorite band of all-time in Audioslave, along with some brilliant solo work later on as well. No musician has had, nor ever will have, more of an impact on my life, and he remains far and away the best performer I've ever had the fortune of seeing. He created songs that inspired, moved, and exhilarated a generation. Chris' legacy will live on long beyond today, as he was a legendary talent that comes around once in a lifetime. RIP, Chris Cornell.
As a kid who grew up in the '90s that listened to grunge and alternative rock, Soundgarden and Tool were my two introductions into the world of progressive music. Soundgarden's "Rhinosaur" is still the best song they ever wrote, as far as I'm concerned, and thinking of a world where Chris' voice isn't ringing out anymore with new melodies is a goddamn shame.
With that said, I've lost one of my musical influences and a good personal friend whose funeral is tomorrow in one week, so I think I'm going to be pretty shut down this weekend as a whole. Man, what a fucking week.
According to Pitchfork, it's being investigated as a suicide.
:(
Edit: I'd already heard this from other sources, so didn't click the link in the original post. Didn't find out about the potential suicide til later. Oops.
Police told the New York Times that a white man whose birthday matches Cornell’s was found on a bathroom floor at MGM Grand with a band around his neck, but would not confirm the victim’s identity.
it certainly feels like we're losing singular talents much faster than we're replacing them. what a bummer.
man i've never been huge on his other work but superunknown was one of THE albumns from my teenage years. undoubtedly incredible voice. RIP.
Man the weirdest thing happened to me i just bought Badmotorfinger twenty minutes later i checked my phone and found out Chris Cornell Died this might be the weirdest thing that ever happened to me !
to cheer us up here is Vinny Playing Outshined.
Thank you for posting this! Good stuff! Made me feel a bit better. I need to break my copy of Rocksmith out again.
Soundgarden and Audioslave were two incredible bands. Chris Cornell was a real talent who managed to stay relevant even after Grunge had run its course. This death just felt like a real gut punch. This feels like a piece of my childhood died and not in that hyperbolic the Star Wars prequels sucked kinda way. More like I had a shitty abusive childhood and bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Stone Temple Pilots helped me cope and get through the dark times.
Chris Cornell was easily one of the most powerful vocalists in rock for the last 30 years. The news of his passing gutted me real good. Truly tragic.
Easily has been the most hard hitting celebrity death for me so far.
Always was and still is, a massive fan of Soundgarden, Audioslave and his personal work.
Puts in perspective, no matter how famous you are, and how much money you have, you can still suffer from depression extremely bad.
I hope you're at peace now, Chris.
RIP.
My older brother was the big fan of Soundgarden back in the day. I sort of inherited it. I never strayed too far from the really popular songs but I really, really love those songs. And he made my favorite Bond song, man. I've always thought he was one of the best rock singers there ever was. No one sounds like him.
My friend was at that last concert too. Was posting about it excitedly For weeks.
Rest in Peace, Chris.
If my user name hasn't given it away, I'm quite sad about this.
And he was still making great music. This is from his 2015 solo album.
