Star Wars Cast Announced. Get Hype?

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film

Just this one pic actually kinda sorta turned me around, plus Max Von Sydow! I'm back in.

Andy Serkis is the only new cast member that I've heard of before. And kind of the only thing about this news that seems interesting to me.

If Abrams' vision is good enough that it convinced Ford to jump on board, because Ford fucking HATES his Star Wars associations, then I'm willing to have a little faith in this.

No more hype than the usual for a big budget film. At this point it is a bunch of Hollywood guys thinking about doing a Hollywood movie so I am not sure what I should be excited about.

edit: removed the thing about "sitting in Hollywood" because they maybe somewhere cheaper. :)

And here I was hoping we'd get a general idea of the plot from the casting (they'd be forced to say who plays what roles, which then forces to say "here's what that means").

Yeah, he's looking good. I heard somewhere that personal trainers were hired for Fisher and Hamill, but they were satisfied with the shape Ford was in.

...though I can't imagine anyone on the planet has the balls to tell Harrison Ford that he needs to hit the gym. Guy still looks pretty good anyway, and why would a smuggler need to be in shape for, anyway? There, it all works out.

Why would I get hyped over names I've never heard of?

I want to see what these new actors are capable of for acting, but I trust J.J. Abrams in this project. I'm getting hyped seeing Andy Serkis on the cast!

Thanks for making me think I'm not losing my mind. He is looking amazing compared to a few years ago.

Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac are interesting choices. After seeing Drive and Inside Llewyn Davis, I'm convinced Oscar Isaac can do anything.

I'm kinda feelin' it! I'm not sure why.

I think the fact they didn't go with "big" current stars to fill the new roles says a lot about what they're actually hoping to accomplish: there's no fuckin' Sam Jackson in there to make you say "hey look, it's Sam Jackson!" It's just a bunch of people that kinda look like they belong in Star Wars.

Also: no one under age 20! Which means they're making an "all-ages" film - not a goddamn kids movie. All of this is good.

I'm kind of surprised.

As long as Damon Lindelof isn't writing it, I guess I'm cool with that cast, but they should leave Star Wars alone dammit. Before they release anything new, they need to put the original unaltered versions out on blu-ray.

That's a lot of characters. When is the last time Mark Hamill was in a live action movie?

I'm glad they haven't gone for any big names. I have liked a bunch of these people in various things. I bet Andy Serkis is a CGI alien... or an alien monkey.

I love that it's not five A-lister teenagers. Except for Serkis I've not heard of any of these new people. Perfect. Shit feels on track to me.

I really like seeing some interesting names like Boyega, Isaac and Gleeson. Especially Boyega, I love Attack The Block but totally did not expect him to strike out like this. Good for him.

I'm going to guess Boyega is the lead protagonist. Which would be a pretty significant decision, considering how mainstream Star Wars is.

I bet Adam Driver will be evil.

Fuck yeah! I guess they wanted today's Alec Guiness and the made the right pick. Hell, von Sydow is way better than Alec Guiness ever was.

Lightning rarely strikes twice, but J.J. is really good at creating homages to films from the 80s. Even if homages rarely live up to the originals, it should at least be entertaining.

That cast seems pretty great, some interesting choices/up and coming people that's cool, I'm glad they didn't just go "WE NEED NAAAAAAAMES!"
But not really any hype, hope, but no hype.
I'm sure the movie will have Avengers level hype when the first trailer hits anyways.

Isaac and Driver is just interesting because I want a Star Wars themed version of "Please Mr Kennedy".

I didn't recognize any of the names of the new actors, but some googling taught me that Max Von Sydow was the priest in The Exorcist, Andy Serkis is Gollum, and the Inside Llewyn Davis guy is in this (I hated that movie).

This sounds good, but I don't get hype over anything Star Wars, I enjoy them though.

Yeah when I read his name I was pretty stoked. Some good names on this cast. Also I haven't seen Inside Llewyn Davis yet but knowing Oscar Isaac played the lead in a Coen brothers movie, he gets automatic approval from me.
