I am very tempted to take some nyquil or something like that to help me fall asleep. Ever since I was cramming for exams my sleep schedule has been off and I haven't been able to fall asleep until 4AM. I'm probably going to take some tonight at 8 and fall asleep at 9ish in order to catch up on sleep and wake up at an early time. Have you ever done anything like this?
Taking medicine to help you fall asleep, have you ever done it?
I take Tylenol PM almost every night, or at least the nights I have work the next day. Sleep isn't something I am very good at, if I try to sleep on my own I wake up like an hour later and can't go back to sleep. I'm a borderline insomniac or something.
they are not all that good, they leave u very groggy come morning time.
try exercise that worked for me
I go through spells where I can't sleep and just about have to take a Tylenol PM or only get to sleep for 2-3 hours a night.
I had a doctor tell me to take Melatonin. I was told to take twice what the maximum dosage on the bottle is. The bottle also said take it for no longer than 4 weeks and my doctor told me to take it for 5 weeks. It's an all natural hormone, but it sure did mess up chemical balance. I was getting enough sleep, and was still tired for a few hours during the morning, although that might have more to do with my quitting coffee at the same time.
University involved a combination of painkillers for my skateboarding, "uppers" for going out on the town and then sleeping pills to get back down again so I could make it to my morning lectures. Im mostly good these days though.
" @RE_Player92: Take Melatonin, natural sleep hormone. Taking it at the same time each night will force your sleep schedule back into rhythm. Then stop taking it. The faster you get off these things the better. The most restful sleep is normal sleep. "This shit is correct. Melatonin is what your brain produces to help you sleep, the pills make your eyelids feel heavy and you get drowsy, then it's easy to fall asleep. Good stuff.
I developed a full-blown addiction to sleeping pills, thanks to severe paranoia, insomnia, and depression about five years ago. Eventually I was taking between four and six every night, and even that stopped working after a while. And yes, I can definitely say that that shit fucks with your head over time.
Thankfully I'm over that hump now. I've replaced it with a single 16oz mug of coffee every morning.
" Have you ever tried, ya know, like getting four hours of sleep to line yourself back out? "I tried that ya know?
None of that stuff works for me. In fact, it almost always does the opposite and wakes me up. Must be my Bizzaro world physiology.
I downed a Hell of a lot of Nyquil one time (I had a serious coughing fit one night that wouldn't let up). I literally just kept sipping the thing until I couldn't keep my eyes open. It was the shitty generic CVS brand though, so that might explain some of it. I also took a generic sleep aid once that did the trick nicely.
yeah i took nyquil a few times to block out noisy roommates, but now i just have a beer or two. Also workout during the day you want to get to sleep.
I have horrible insomnia and have a very difficult time falling asleep. I find that my mind continues to turn no matter what's going on with my body, and there is no off switch. Most of the time I'm able to fall asleep eventually, but some days I just can't shut down. Drugs I have used are:
Zopiclone. A psychotropic hypnotic. Makes you not so much sleepy as make you trip out like you're on acid. Then you lay down and you're out. Next morning your mouth tastes all metallic and weird, a side effect of the psychactive ingredients. Very effective short term, only works on me about 1-2 days before I'm completely immune and have to wait a week or so.
Temazepam, a benzodiazepine. Also acts as a skeletal muscle relaxant. To me, not as effective as Zopiclone, but slightly more effective than over-the-counter antihistamines. Only worked for me one day. Doctor told me to try a double or quad dose because of my resistance to drugs, when used in this quantity it works okay but again loses effect when used sequentially.
Chlorhydrate. Over-the-counter sedative. Works surprisingly well especially when doubled up. Tolerance builds fast (especially for me) so your best bet is to take two to make sure you get it done on the first day and hopefully it resets you. Do not drink any alcohol before taking these or you might not wake up.
Anti-histamines. I can't remember the name by hand, but its another over-the-counter med. Similar but less potent effect as the Chlorhydrate. I have taken these in conjuction with about 3-5 oz of whiskey and was absolutely clobbered out. I wouldn't be able to stay awake if I tried. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. I am especially tolerant and resistant to drugs. Doctors have required me to take a blood test to determine chemical effects on me in particular so they can accurately dose me. I do not fall into the typical human dosage requirements. For painkillers where 2 pills are required every 4 hours, I am told to take 4 pills every 2 hours. This is just my physiology, DO NOT mix alcohol with any drug, ever.
Mary Jane. Honest to goodness the best sleep I've ever had, with no after effects. Usually requires the application of a pepperoni pizza.
Beer. A depressant. Fairly weak in strength, but when used in large irresponsible quantities it is definitely effective. Drink with equal parts water, may require the use of an ibuprofen the next morning.
