I just saw Alex's tweet about BABYMETAL. And I have to admit I love it. I have no idea why. Its fascinating. I can't stop listening to it.

For those that haven't heard it yet. Prepare yourself.

#2 Posted by Pr1mus (3870 posts) -

I just linked this to a friend and he said it's the most unpleasant thing i linked him. He keeps watching though.

It is fascinating.

#3 Posted by noizy (662 posts) -

@pr1mus: Yea.... I sorta feel the same. Debating posting it on my social media feed, and maybe start a recurring feature.

#4 Posted by SirOptimusPrime (1993 posts) -

I really, deep in my soul deep, want to hate this.

But I can't

#5 Posted by Vanick (328 posts) -

Why... can't I stop watching this? It's just so... I don't even know what to say.

This is what it feels like when I'm drunk and trying to comprehend what my friends are talking about. Or it is a nightmare from which none of us can escape.

#9 Posted by Hunter5024 (5612 posts) -

I knew about Baby Metal before it was cool.

Online
#10 Posted by Petiew (1345 posts) -

I was recently debating whether or not I should buy the limited edition album. I guess this is a sign.

#11 Posted by Levius (1107 posts) -

Ehh, its fine, I'm sure I would be drunk enough to play it as a dumb song at some point. I'm pretty sure you can find much worse on the internet, I am reminded of that band they talked about on the Bombcast (Brokencyde or something).

#12 Posted by Sergio (2080 posts) -

Yep. They also have better songs than this one.

Its like a 21st century Loudness. You can't beat a mic that turns out to be a sword. This is something i would pipe into my Catacomb system.

It's so hypnotic.

#15 Posted by DoctorDonkey (211 posts) -

I think the best part of this is the Skullomania instrumentalists.

#16 Posted by crithon (3126 posts) -

I've been a big fan of the Japanese metal scene for years.... it's just.... I don't know why, it clicks as something delightful in it's presentation and damn those drums ROCK HARD

#17 Posted by Aetheldod (3551 posts) -

He posts this after being such a dick on last friday bombin in the am? What is going on? D: and yep already knew of babymetal

#18 Posted by StarvingGamer (8146 posts) -

I wonder how all the people with blown minds would have reacted two years ago

#19 Posted by CaLe (3959 posts) -

They have many energy and dancing spirit.

#20 Posted by ShaggE (6416 posts) -

I have no idea what I just saw, but... I think I love this. Like, without a hint of irony. This is crazy and incredible.

I feel that same sense of confusion and wonder that I did when I discovered Stupeflip.

#21 Edited by chrissedoff (2082 posts) -

Huh. Well, it's been interesting to learn that merging the two worst genres of music hasn't resulted in a sum that's any worse than its parts.

#22 Posted by RollingZeppelin (1958 posts) -

No... just no. Stop it, Internet. Stop.

#23 Edited by baka_shinji17 (204 posts) -

They ain't got nothin' on Kyary Pamyu Pamyu!

#24 Posted by OrwellHuxZam (108 posts) -

It's like the beginning of Brutal Legend but...ok?

#25 Edited by Darji (5294 posts) -

I think I saw these girls a long while ago and thought man this sounds great. But sadly I never found any other song interesting as Doki Doki Morning...

but yeah japanese music is awesome ^^

something a bit more crazy

I feel exactly the opposite. I really want to like this. But I can't

Also, without understanding a single word, I feel like this consists of a single verse and the chorus? But maybe that's common for metal? (I don't listen to much metal)

#27 Edited by ArbitraryWater (11621 posts) -

I'm sorry, what did I just watch?

#28 Posted by futurstock (135 posts) -

what a weird mixmash, i love Japan.

#29 Posted by 49th (2727 posts) -

I don't know how to feel about it... I'm glad it exists. They are clearly miming though. I think it would be funnier if the kids were even younger or played the instruments themselves.

Depends on the metal you're listening to.

I'm not much of a musician, but this doesn't sound like anything particularly good. I'm not sure if I'm sorry it exists or not. It's both annoying and delightful in equal measure.

I have heard the name "BabyMetal" before. I think I heard it in some Top 10 J-pop songs thread at the end of 2013? Anyway, this might even be the same song, and my reaction is pretty much the same. It sucks. It's entertaining for about four minutes. I'd like it a lot more if the super high pitched shit right before the chorus disappeared.

And at the end of the day, I've got Arch Enemy for my female-fronted metal band needs.

EDIT: Also, to note, combining pop with metal is possible. A Day To Remember did it, though last I checked they had started to sound a lot like a lot of other sorta-not-really-punk bands.

I'm glad there is a thread for this. I don't do twitter or anything, and in the past I have gone to the members homepage to say something, but I never feel correct about that. Last time I PM'd a staff guy, but that felt weird too, though he was good about it and responded..

Sooo. Baby metal, listened to "I like chocolate' or something like.

True art! You know, like that crucifix upside down in urine a decade or 2 back on display. Well no, this had a sense of humor. And the girls(they be girls right?) were pretty. About all I can come up with. I don't think I am going to be a repeat offender and listen to any more.

#32 Posted by Vuud (1956 posts) -

Wow I had no idea you could make hyphen-metal any worse, but I'm proven wrong every time.

#33 Edited by CornBREDX (5096 posts) -

I don't think it's that great and interestingly I usually find stuff Japan does with music interesting but this doesn't work for me.

I mean I like the slipknot like riffs in between but it's like its mixed with J-Pop or whatever and it doesn't mix well for me.

I still prefer School of Rock over something like this but at the same time I'm also ok this exists.

Jesus Christ.

I pretty much knew what she was going to do when I started the video, but it's still terrifying, even for someone who has listened to his fair share of the more extreme forms of metal.

Also, that guy that isn't Howie Mandel is definitely right in saying that she should watch her vocal cords, that can cause some serious damage.

#37 Posted by CornBREDX (5096 posts) -

@believer258: haha. That was Howard Stern.

I do love that he's "that guy that isn't Howie Mandel" - I am serious as I am not a Stern fan at all and seeing the worlds most famous shock jock now reduced to that makes me smile a little bit. =)

#38 Posted by Pezen (1594 posts) -

I think they're pretty good, mostly because the part that makes it "metal" is done pretty decently and I've always liked when people do weird genre jumps, so doing metal with japanese pop vocals is just downright fun. I don't even remember when I heard about them first, but it was a while ago.

#39 Posted by Flacracker (1655 posts) -

Yeah the chorus is pretty damn catchy and has a big sound. The rest of it is pretty bad. It is the reason I like this song:

#40 Posted by SirOptimusPrime (1993 posts) -

@flacracker: Well that's also because Blind Guardian is shit minus two or three songs on Follow the Blind. Anticipating anything great from them is a huge mistake.

I wont argue with you. Nightfall in Middle Earth is the only album of theirs I have actually listened to. I really like dat chorus doe.

I kept ignoring this throughout the day, but I just needed to click.

And I can never go back.

GOD DAMN THIS SITE! What the hell is this?! Why can't I stop listening to this!?

This changes everything.

Everything.

#45 Edited by Demoskinos (14761 posts) -

Yep. Saw this after @aurahack RT'ed it. He gave me some links to some more goodies. I totally un-ironically love this. Its the most interesting thing to be done with anything relating to metal in years. Although not surprising I like this there are a bunch of metal/rock Vocaloid mashups I've heard that I really like way before I heard this tonight.

Actually, I was in a bit of a sour mood earlier. This legitimately put me in a better mood.

Edit: Also this is probably their best song I've heard so far.

#46 Posted by TruthTellah (8777 posts) -

This is the very essence of Metal.

#47 Edited by Sergio (2080 posts) -

I think they're adorable with their silly names: Su-Metal, Yuimetal, and Moametal.

#49 Posted by dudeglove (7751 posts) -

Is this part of the latest DDR release?

#50 Posted by ThunderSlash (1681 posts) -

This song has been repeating in my head ever since I played that video. Please make it stop.
