What ended up happening in this case was basically "he said/she said", however, his chances in court were looking bad not only because he was a large black man, but because his defense attorney outright refused to let him reject the plea bargain because of said physical traits. If he didn't accept it and he lost in court, he would be in jail way longer than he was now. It's a fucked up situation, and I don't think there are any easy fixes to this problem at all. Hell, any fix would step on a lot of toes I imagine.
