Mods will lock stuff cus they feel like it, yet let 3 year old threads be necro'd.

Makes no sense.

Why would you start a new thread when there already is one? That's something I've never understood.

Why would you rather revive a dead thread where most of the people who were part of the discussion aren't going to reply? Why not simply make a new conversation on the same subject?

Almost every other forum autolocks topics after a period of time. Giantbombs forum policies are frankly awful.

I uh. Don't know what you're getting offended about.

It's one thing if the topic is very specific to the OP, such as asking for advice on how to get a computer working with a specific hardware setup that's not likely to apply to other than the thread starter, but for general stuff like this? There is no further need for input from the OP, and thus we don't need to take the fact that it was posted 2 years ago into account.

Pop. No one uses 'soda' here.

That map confuses me. People in the south use 'coke' as a generic term for all related beverages?

Who said i was "offended"? Why would i be offended?

I'm merely pointing out something stupid and flawed in the giantbomb forum policy.

Soda, but I usually say coke when referring to a cola-flavored soda regardless if it is an actual coke or not.

Soda because I live in Massachusetts. Then again nobody just asks for 'soda', they ask for what they want. So you hear; I'll have a Coke if they want a cola or I'll have a Sprite it they want a lemon soda.

Is Fizzy drink an English (or non-American) thing? It's what I would say, but I feel like I don't hear it so much any more.

The Coca Cola company is located in Atlanta, GA it's really big and employs a LOT of people and so...

...and yes, in a wide area around Atlanta it is "coke." Yes, I once heard someone say "I'll have a Pepsi coke."

In West and North Alabama we follow the same convention as the Auburn area - that is calling it 'Coke'.

Potentially 'fizzy drink', but they're generally just lumped in with all other non-alcoholic beverages as 'soft drinks'.

While we're at it (though I don't have a handy colored map to prove it)... as you move west across the US the thing that you put your groceries in changes from "bag" (east coast to the Appalachian mountains, but not between southern Virginia and northern Florida) to "sack" (middle of the country and the southern east coast [see above]) and back to bag (west of the Rocky mountains)...

Oh, and I call it soda, pop or coke (and I can [and do] spell in multiple versions of English - extra 'u's are fun!) depending on the audience and location... :-)

Who the hell calls every drink a coke? That's just weird. It's soda. Or you can call it a soft drink. But pop sounds fucking stupid, and coke is a brand name.

It's a bit more extreme, but Kleenex and Xerox both became perfectly valid ways of referencing tissues and photocopies. I'd imagine if you are say from Atlanta it makes more sense regardless.

i grew up in South Africa where they are often referred to as "cool drink" although you kind of say it as one word - cooldrink. In the US now, and it is referred to as soda close to 100% of the time in my area.

Dont know why anyone gives a shit. I guess when I do call it something besides its actual brand name I call it pop. Soda is fine. Calling everything coke would seem rather confusing. Its still kinda mind blowing how bent out of shape people get over calling it pop or soda.

In the sense of the usual Soda vs Pop thing its obviously Soda here. I've never heard anyone use the word Pop unless it was in some weird joking way making of fun of people who do or something.

But in reality I call it what it is i.e. Coke, Pepsi, Sunkist, Mountain Dew, Root Beer etc etc. Soda is the umbrella term for the general type of drinks you get from fountains (or cans and bottles of course) and such at fast food places. Flavored carbonated syrupy drink things, which sounds like it could describe them all but I never thought of Ginger Ale as a soda or other non-standard carbonated drink flavors. This is a lot harder to describe then I thought it would be.

But only weirdos say pop so that's that.

(NJ for reference)

Wow soda people are a bunch of jerks. I just call what it is usually (pepsi, spirte, crush), but sometimes I call it pop.
